Can we see what Patton was dreaming about before he woke?
You spiral into Patton’s past dreams.
At first, nothing makes sense, just a jumble of disjointed thoughts that don’t completely even form. But suddenly a bunch of colors bloom around you, a cacophony of voices suddenly speaking all at once.
The voices don’t sound like they’re taking a breath, but they slowly grow quieter until they fade back into silence once again.
And then in the next moment, the sun-speckled, snow-covered ground around you nearly blinds you. But that doesn’t prevent you from you seeing what you need to see.
A younger version of Patton is playing happily in the snow, bundled up, but yet not as much as a traditional human child would be at the temperatures his surroundings were at.
His face is exactly what you would think he would look as a much younger child. But instead of his current nearly white blond curly hair of the present, this younger version of Patton has thick and perfectly straight raven-black hair that a usual dwarf has.
Not concerned with his hair in dream obliviousness, this dream child Patton runs and rolls around in the snow with reckless abandon having the time of his life. That is until a gust of strangely warm wind blew through the area hot enough that the snow around Patton should’ve melted if this were not a dream, but it didn’t.
Immediately, Patton stood up from where had been making snow angels to gaze around before his gaze almost immediately fell on a figure shrouded in shadow in an ice cave nearby that the warmth feels like it’s coming from.
Patton doesn’t even hesitate before running up to the mouth of the cave, squinting into it curiously but not crossing the threshold.
From within the cave, the figure steps up to the mouth of the cave, impossibly still shrouded in shadow. At this close a range, the shadow across the figure looks strangely... stained? That’s the best word to describe the strange texture of the shadow.
The humanoid shaped shadow moves swiftly, bringing out something in their hand. Their hand hovers just before the border before opening it’s hand to reveal Patton’s necklace. The grey of the pebble on the shadow creates a stark contrast to the white and black of Patton’s dream surroundings.
Patton’s eyes lit up when hee sees it. He quickly cups his hands to accept it. And when the shadow does place the necklace into them, the barest edge of the shadow’s fingers suddenly become the familiar natural color of a human or elves fingers.
Towering over young Patton, Patton has to crane his neck to beam up at the shadow person in thanks.
Once he pulls the necklace down onto his neck, though, two different voices come from the shadow at the instant.
“Please go now.”
“I love you.”
And at that instant, the dream abruptly ends.
On Padparadcha’s ‘Past Vision’
There are several occasions where it would be more ‘convenient’ to be in the present moment rather than a few minutes behind. Conversations for one, and hiding from patrols. She is clearly always a little behind. So this leads to one of two conclusions: a) part of her ‘defectiveness’ is that she can't turn off her ability, or b) no Sapphire can, and our Sapphire’s ability to hold conversations comes from practice knowing when to say her half of a conversation.
Padparascha it took forever for me to say her name right!! (Pad-par-ah-sha)
If there’s anything going on with Logan’s leg, can I look back in the past to see what happened? Maybe an old injury or something?
You spiral back to that night where Logan ‘confessed’ to Dee. Focusing in on a sizeable. gash/wound in Logan’s leg, following it back to the inn room where you saw the second vision of that night.
You watch as Dee patches up Logan, taking good care of Logan’s leg as he tends too that wound in particular. In a blink and you’ll miss it moment, Dee holds his hand over the wound and his lips move to say something.
When Dee’s hand retreats, the wound looks smaller and more progressed into healing. In addition, all of Logan’s other more subtle wound seem to have lessened as well.
Whatever Dee did, it wasn’t enough to completely heal Logan’s injures, but it did help.
Dee’s eyes skirt over the wounds, frowning for a moment before he sets to work on dressing Logan’s leg wound first. Setting out a roll of bandages, Dee takes ultimate care with Logan’s leg, making sure not to jostle Logan too much.
A few times Logan groans, but remains unconscious. Each time, Dee visibly cringes and starts again slower and gentler.
Once Logan’s leg wound is properly bandaged, Dee glances at the less major wounds along Logan, but sits back for a moment.
As he looks down at Logan, Dee’s body goes still except for his hand, which begins to rub the back of his neck. A pensive expression settles onto Dee’s face, his eyebrows twitching together. He closes his eyes for a moment.
Just as your vision spirals away, Logan begins to squirm, the beginning of other vision you saw beginning.
But you don’t return to the present, instead, snatches of moments fly by you. All of them have Logan running his hand over the wound. At first out of the novelty and pain, but slowly the touch becomes more and more practiced, the same movement happening over and over until even those dozens upon hundreds of snatches of vision fade...
Oh oh, could we maybe see right before Patton woke up? -🍰
You spiral back to the wagon in near pitch black, but you see just enough to make out Thomas and Dee on one side of the Wagon and Patton on the other. Logan is looking out at the front of the wagon, much like Dee was the previous night.
You quickly center in on Patton, searching for anything as Patton sleeps on for a few peaceful moments.
For a moment, it feels like maybe something is there, but you can’t see anything. Whatever it is, the feeling of something there grows quickly and surges before dissipating the moment a small noise from the other side of the wagon, a normal groan during sleep that is barely above a whisper.
At that moment, Patton’s eyes fly open sleepily. He sits up slightly, his eyes half-lidded and gazes around the wagon for a few moments before sighing softly.
Resting his head back, you can tell Patton doesn’t actually go to sleep immediately, he sits there feigning sleep, his eyelids still blinking and his eyes working lazily around under them. He stays like that for a few minutes before he finally shifts himself into a more comfortable position and his eyes fall closed.
As Patton’s breathing levels out, you try to listen for anything nearby that could’ve woken Patton. But there’s none, and Logan would have likely heard a sound too, being so close.
As the vision fades away, you aren’t sure if you have an answer to what actually happened.
Past vision time!! Can I see other instances in Thomas’s childhood in which he’s shown signs of magic? Like when he was young with the broken-fixed window, and the rogue fire spell.
You zoom back in time, where you see Thomas, older than a toddler, but still very young sitting and playing in a mud puddle in the castle’s garden.
He looks content as he squeals at the feeling of the mud in his hands, throwing the globs further into the garden. There are no guards around for some reason, but you quickly hear a far off commotion within the palace. Young Thomas doesn’t appear to care however as he continues to ruin his outfit.
Thomas babbles something about “Slimy worms” and “flung over the wall” as he grabs another handful of mud, kicking his feet up and down to watch them splash in the more watery mud.
All of a sudden the commotion is close as you hear a frantic voice call out “Thomas? Where are you?”
Thomas turns around to look at the doors behind him and lets out a squeal of “Hot chocolate ground,” though it sounds more like “Hah chahlah groh.” But almost immediately after that, the doors fly open to reveal Malinda, who you haven’t truly seen before. There’s something vaguely familiar about her even so, and her outfit is very royal in style.
She looks frantic as she bursts through the doors, face holding a tear or two, but the moment she sees the state of Thomas, her face becomes vaguely horrified at the sight of her son covered in mud, his royal outfit ruined. Before she does anything, she stick her head back in the castle and yells out the king’s name.
Where do dee go after walking away from Logan in that last flashback?
You come back to that same scene, with Logan wondering where Dee went. But instead you see where Dee went as you pass through the wall just outside to see Dee leaned up against it, breathing heavy.
Dee wastes no time though, as he starts to walk away as soon as he had caught his breath enough. However, he doesn’t completely disappear into the crowd, as he almost immediately turns around at the side of the closest building, watching for Logan to come out of the inn.
Logan does so, and Dee watches as Logan scours the area with his eyes, making sure he’s hidden when Logan looks his way. But Logan doesn’t call out, and even if he did, he doesn’t know Dee’s name. Instead, he slowly starts walking the opposite direction Dee is in, carefully looking for Dee.
Dee, intrigued by Logan’s decision to stay quiet, follows a fair way behind on the other side of the path, watching Logan through the various people walking the path that give him a side eye as some see his antics.
Logan keeps a steady pace while looking around for him, and Dee swears Logan has looked straight at him a couple times, though through the crowd, it’s probably a coincidence. After a time, though, Logan does increase his pace as he nears a certain building.
Dee thinks for a moment that Logan couldn’t possibly be going in that building, but Logan doesn’t even stop as he walks up the steps and into a temple. The temple itself has a symbol of a road traveling into a sunrise on it’s outer wall, and a nearby sign is well worn away, but you can make out the words ‘Healing House.’
Dee looks confused as he watches Logan go in and disappear around a pillar. After a moment of apparent deliberation, gets up out of his newest hiding place and cautiously approaches the temple.
As Dee gets closer, you can see Logan talking to someone in cleric/priestly garb, though their attire suggests a very prestigious place within the temple. The cleric nods as you watch Logan gesticulate with his hands as speaks with him.
When their conversation is done, Logan doesn’t walk back towards the entrance, but over to where another cleric is standing, waving politely at Logan as he approaches. Logan says something to them and they both go through a door on the side of the temple.
Dee realizes if that door leads to the outside, he wouldn’t be able to evade Logan as he doesn’t know where Logan is. So in reaction, Dee quickly and briskly walks through the main part of the temple to where Logan just went to, but is stopped by the same cleric that Logan was speaking to.
“Dear traveler, what brings you here?” The cleric asks Dee, stopping him in his tracks. Without any haste, the cleric approaches Dee, eyes gentle and kind. An air of respect and calm about them.
“Oh, just passing through, I have never been in this town before, so exploring it has been a new experience.” Dee says, posture relaxing, though you catch the smallest of glances over to the door every so often, but only because you know he’s trying to get there, otherwise it would be almost barely noticeable.
“Ah, I see. Our ‘little’ city of Scornubel is quite an interesting one, no?” Dee absently nods, and you can tell he’s waiting for this conversation to end. The cleric doesn’t seem to notice, however, as he glances at Dee’s gloved hands and scarred face.
“This is a healing house, do you need any healing? I can do nothing for what has already been done and healed, but anything of need I can provide under his light.” The clerics gestures over to the altar in the central and main part of the temple.
Dee takes a half-step back, shaking his head, “I need no healing, just simply passing through, I do appreciate the offer, but it is unneeded.”
The cleric, however, looks puzzled at one of Dee’s hands. And when you focus on it, it looks stiff, and when Dee goes to move it, you notice that it doesn’t look like it’s moving right. The cleric, picking up on this, steps forward and very gently goes to reach for Dee’s hand.
“What are you doing?” Dee snatches his hand back, clutching it with his other hand.
The clerics steps back a step, “I apologize, but I could not help but notice that your hand is injured, I simply wanted to see if it was an injury needing and able to be healed.”
“I assure you I am not injured, but if you need to be sure.”
Dee bites back a sneer, glancing over at the altar. And very hesitantly and cautiously extends his gloved hand to the cleric. The cleric, of course, almost immediately removes Dee’s glove, to which Dee starts to protest, but a sudden quick and stern glance from the cleric surprisingly shuts Dee up as you get a view of Dee’s bare hand, which has a fairly big burn scar on it.
The cleric investigates the burn and curls Dee’s hand in his hand, and at the apex of the squeeze, you see Dee wince, though he doesn’t make a sound. The cleric, taking that as a sign of injury, mutters something under his breath and gestures with his other hand, and Dee’s hand doesn’t heal its burns, but you sickeningly hear something pop and Dee pulls his hand back as it does so.
Dee looks angry at the cleric for a moment, but the moment Dee moves his fingers, his expression drops and he moves his fingers in curiosity, almost as if he didn’t notice he was even injured before, but now he had range of motion.
As Dee is preoccupied with investigating his hand the cleric looks subtly over to the entrance of the temple, where you notice Logan standing at the entrance, and the cleric nods. Logan nods back, acknowledging the unspoken message and turns to walk out of the temple, but not before you hear Dee say, “Thank you.”
At that, Logan falters, but glancing back at Dee, he sees that Dee is most definitely addressing the cleric.
And as the vision spirals away, you watch Logan linger a moment before exiting the temple, leaving Dee as the clerics holds something out to Dee and Dee whips around to stare at the entrance of the temple as he sees what the cleric is giving him...
