~Not Too Fast~

My poem for @isiaiowin's GOetry prompt: Cento, or "patchwork poem" that's made up of lines from another work. I included the page numbers from Good Omens to reference the lines I used. Crowley will slow down for his angel, and Aziraphale knows he's in safe hands :) Text under the cut:

A hundred and twenty miles an hour All over the world. It was a game. It was tremendous fun. Especially driving like that. Could be dangerous. Their eyes met.

There was a formality that had to be observed in all this. "You and me. Over the years. I don't think you need to go worryin'."

He stopped it with a glance. "You don't frighten me."

"Let's go somewhere warm."

No one stopped them.

Struck down and cast out

Molded by all the things it has burned

A spark became a star

To forget that is was turned away

Hidden in a mountain

Deep below the depths

Where the deathless ones roam

Burning brightly

While struggling against the waves

Choking back magma

Spewing black flames

Raging beneath the calm waters

Wishing upon itself

To be free

Evil birds

Build empty nests

And care for poisoned eggs

By day they rest

By night they sing

Begging to be heard

Hoping to fly

Fixing broken things

You can hold the broken bones

In the palm of your hand

Old calls on broken phones

Trying to love shards until they're whole

Holding sand until it forms castles

Holding bones until they become birds

Changes starting quick and quiet

Slow to see the ending

What is seen

With your eyes

Will set you free to fly

Waking visions of old sunshine

Keep the rain at bay

Lay offerings for the disciples of depression

For he is a harsh master

And teaches harsher lessons

Move forward if only to stop yourself frome drowning

Never lose the things you use for emotional grounding

Oversleep

Under eat

Give yourself a daily treat

Be well and kind to bring yourself to a better place

Life is a marathon not a sprinters race

Cope how you can

Negativity

Overwhelming

And suddenly gone

Are the lessons i learned from my guiding light

Replaced slowly with evil

Until it is all i am

Tarpits

My brain is made of tar

Itll be on the floor soon

I count down days til i repaint the walls with my own head

But life looks better through that noose

Risks less risky, time more precious

Sometimes the world leaves me downright breathless

Like she does

I hate the way i am

I wanna be better

I wanna be what she deserves

So i dont cause more pain

Its all i do

Hurt people around me

But its getting better and so am i

The ups and downs feel less like highs

And lows

And more like controlable moods

The fear feels less consuming

But i cant say the same for the longing

Sometimes i count sheep before bed

When i cant sleep

I think of all the good things thatve happened to me

Tangled tightly watching carefree cartoons

I remember all the times that i was happy

I dont leave my bed very often anymore

I cant sleep

So i try to keep my feet off the floor

Im in bed

Pulling my head out from the clouds

It climbed the beanstock

Trying to find all of the little sounds

That gave me comfort gave me strength

I can hear them when i least suspect it

But they've been getting louder

Once if desire

Twice if its need

Fear of our peers ire

Drives secrecy

Her divinity conquers

Anxiety and fear

She fills me with purpose

And my goals seem near

But then her eyes grew dim

And her future seemed grey

I am we who turned to the dark
