I'm going to attempt to tag this with every single relevant thing I can think of, if I've missed anything please tell me.
I'm visiting my grandparents for the holidays and my grandmother has given me a lot of nice vintage and antique things, largely jewelery, usually not older than roughly 1940. I feel fairly confident it won't be damaged. What I'm asking for advice on is the other thing I've been given, which is a ladies' journal, or rather a collection of publications in one book, from 1875. It has no exterior covers and only part of the spine preserved, and contains stories, fashion plates, fold-out pages, &c. I haven't looked inside too much out of worry for the state of the book. If I'm remembering correctly it's American in origin, but I don't know the city of publication right now. For fashion it's getting tagged Victorian because that's what most people know the style as.
I can't check those detail things right now because currently the thing is encased in a very reinforced shell of foam board and packaging tape, I did take care to make sure the sticky side couldn't contact the book, and then wrapped in bubble wrap roughly an inch thick. When driving back I might just keep it in my lap so it can't jolt, but I'm worried the sunlight could damage it so I'm not entirely sure how to store it when at home.
Even though the fact that this seemed to be popular enough at the time makes me suspect I don't own the only copy in existence, I still have a vested interest in digitizing or scanning the journal somehow so that I can look at or share the pages without damaging the book from overuse or having it leave my possession. I absolutely don't want to damage it in this process. Outside of your typical equipment, my best bet is obtaining access to Huntington Library somehow to use some of their things.
So, digitization and how to actually store and handle the thing once it's home are my concerns. I really need some more expert archivists to help me out here. If you find error with my packing, please tell me so as well.
I don't ask this of people, but please reblog this or tag people or do whatever you can to make sure I can reach someone who can give me advice on preserving the book. It's very important to me that it's not damaged, and I know everyone's collection of antiques has to start somewhere, but I'd like to start off on the right foot.
look I understand where the loyalties of most in my circle lie and I get it completely (who doesn't love a child cultist?) but in defense of the Regiment: what child isn't driven by the desire to have and use a cannon regularly? i know I was as a child though I hadn't realized it. i see myself in their need to bring their cannon everywhere. i wish I had a cannon to bring everywhere. I'm getting sidetracked. those child soldiers are endearing too!

What is the origin of your blog name?
it's the system name! I am on tumblr at all because Alastor lost an ill-advised bet. he wanted to make it an obscure Annie reference but was talked down from it. as for why it's the system name, I needed one that wasn't a placeholder and it's incredibly funny. cardiovascular= cardiovascular SYSTEM, heart is there, I really like medicine and anatomy, there is a cannibal in here... and syndicate plays on system and the concept of systems unionizing which I have been pitching to all my plural friends year(s) before discovering I myself was plural. also unions fuck.

show, movie or book, huh. i haven't been doing much to comfort myself recently besides study for finals so. I'm actually not sure. i like horror movies, downloaded them for the drive here! and my friend got me this giant anatomy textbook that I'm so excited to keep reading which I didn't bring because my associates don't share my passion. besides that I haven't been reading as much as I'd like. ADHD is kicking my ass as always

I use the term extremely sparingly, so I'd actually say CCCC. I didn't end up having the same extremely intense period of beginning an interest where it completely took over my thoughts for Fallen London, it's just slowly become a very important part of my life.

i kinda don't remember much about being a kid and I was a weird one anyway. the more I'm thinking the more I'm blanking. i liked dress up games at some point??? and now I dress myself up by drawing so it's the same thing different flavors

lock screen is still CCCC stuff and the home screen is still Mind and at this point I'd feel bad about changing it? who knows what I'd even change it to, feels self-centered to make it my own art and I'm too busy buying presents and being self conscious to commission anything
Are you a morning person, night owl, or something else entirely?
in terms of productivity I am way better at night but in terms of sleep I hate being awake in the mornings and I hate being awake at night. i sleep like 12 to 6 every night. i guess I'm a night owl because I hate waking up more

i have two jobs and neither of them pay me. i work at a mental health hotline and as a DM, they're both good gigs but at the moment kind of sore subjects
