there was a different tint to everything between them now, the modest home she’d come to put herself into had gone sour -- life moved on, whether you wanted it to or not. it’s an awful reality, sorting through belongings, touching a dead man’s things. a dead man he had known, attended the wedding of, the wedding of his best friend -- his girlfriend, now he supposes. he tries not to let the feeling of being an INTRUDER well up. all of it is for her, refusing to let her go through this alone. and even if they had followed the line of WHERE THIS WENT straight into deciding to move in together, he still feels as though they’d barreled though lines, and broken promises. still, he’s . . . happy for her, for them both despite the tragic nature of the day’s work. he puts another stack of BIRD BOOKS into a box. “ you wanted these over here, right ? ”
