Elena’s face was a mix of emotions -- part of her was amused at the fact that , like Nate, Sam hadn’t played very many video games. The other part of her was sad.  Sam had very valid reasons to not have access to games like this. Not only was he in prison for a long time but he had a stressful childhood like his younger brother. She hated thinking about it. They deserved all the nicest things in the world. And thinking about him in that prison cell ....  alone.

“ I think we should change that. ”

The two had been sitting on the couch at Elena and Nate’s home in New Orleans. After everything had happened, Elena thought that it was only fair that she get to hang out with her brother-in-law to get to know him. Plus, it made Nate relieved to know he was close after all that went down. They had been talking for a few hours, Elena feeling relaxed around Sam and listening to his stories, sharing hers whenever he asked.

She could easily relax around him. He was like Nate.

Reaching over to the coffee table, she passed him the controller and stood up, turning on the tv and the Playstation before returning to the couch, nudging his arm.

“ I hope sucking at video games doesn’t run through the family. ”

               is that spoken from experience? CYNICAL thought is the instinct in the face of someone who tries to be HONEST, to help, and there’s a moment he does feel somewhat bad for it. laugh a little, he feels he’s heard the advice before, probably more times over than he’d care to truly recall, but he still finds a sigh on his lips, as the response doesn’t come quickly. 

         hands stuff into pockets, lips pressed thin as he lets the advice sink in just a little deeper; the way his moods swung, and in the face of it the challenges of trying so desperately to hold onto himself, he might try laughing.

     whatever tone their conversation had prior to catching a glimpse of a golden object is a thing of the past. kate’s bright eyes glimmer with thrill & excitement at the thought of even climbing mountains that high or sailing seas that deep. whatever he went through to get that, she wanted in on it. the world had SO MUCH to offer, it couldn’t hurt to give it a shot ?
