One of the reasons I love Patton so much

There's something so precious to me about Patton being both Logan's and Janus' biggest defender, because, apart from the fact that these two are just very misunderstood and tend to get ignored by the others a lot, they also happen to thematically and ideologically oppose Patton the most. They're his two opposite sides, with Logan's logic serving as an opposite to Patton's emotions and Janus' self-serving nature contrasting Patton's selfless morals. And yet, despite their massive differences, Patton is still the one who seems to value them the most out of all the other sides, which to me speaks volumes about Patton's maturity and his underestimated understanding of the inner workings of Thomas' mind, which makes him aware of every side's importance in it.

Am I the only one that’s really disappointed with the lack of Patton appreciation in the fandom? Honestly, I don’t even understand why so many people are so furious with him, and what the hype is with unsympathetic!Patton???

Everything he does is for Thomas. Morality is hard, and Patton is trying to come to terms with the fact that a lot of things aren’t black and white. He’s having to unlearn this because he thinks that he has to be certain of everything and be strict because that’s his job. He wants to apply moral rules to everything so he can be the best for Thomas and the other Sides, because he loves them so freaking much, and we all know how hard he is on himself when he doesn’t do something right. He’s doing his best, and his heart is in the right place, even if he’s made some mistakes and accidentally caused some damage. I just wish people would be more forgiving.

The more I rewatch the series, the more I appreciate Patton. I don’t really care for cute fluffy characters but Patton is more nurturing than just pure fluff. He makes sure the sides are nice to each other and comforts them when they feel bad. He also only uses the nickname “kiddo” when he thinks some needs help, so he doesn’t constantly baby the others (except for Virgil). Patton was the only one who was supportive towards Roman in AIO, helps Virgil, and compliments Logan. (He also wants to smooch them, but that’s not important rn). Patton’s also smart, in the puppet episode, he seems to be way more emotionally intelligent than in Moving On, he’s not scared to admit that when he feels bad, and understands when Logan is confused. Also, his character arc didn’t change his character completely unlike Virgil. I consider season 1 Virgil and season 2 Virgil as completely different characters but Patton still kept the same personality and was still bubbly as always, he’s just not scared about being sad anymore. Patton may not be my favorite but I can’t deny that he’s a great character, he’s not PURRfect, but that’s okay :3

A bit of Patton appreciation for the heart.

Guys... let’s just have a moment for some Patton appreciation (yes I am going to do that with all the sides. So sushi.) Morals are hard. And as a society we’re judgey, like labels far too much, can’t evolve with culture (culture is a lot faster) and overall it’s so hard to be morally correct. Patton, also, in POF, might not be great but he’s trying so hard over there. He’s literally stumbling over his every word and trying so hard not to hurt his human. Morals are bullshitty as well. There’s a high level of pretentious crap that goes into morals. Overall, there probably will be follow-ups to this post and appreciate Patton. If only for one second.

Theory: Patton literally cannot say anything mean

So in the video Making some changes, Patton says:

To which Roman replies: “Wow, I didn’t know you made jokes like that.”

To which Patton replies: “What joke did I make?”

This implies that he WASN’T TRYING TO MAKE A JOKE!!! He was actually trying to call Roman an a** (I don’t swear, so I’m gonna do this).

This means that whenever he wants to make a direct insult, he is literally forced to turn it into a dad joke or something like that. And he doesn’t realize he’s joking!

So that’s my theory!
