Mini-review:

I loved the original Beetlejuice movie so much that I was kinda wary about this one, even after it became such a big hit. Having finally watched it, I'm left feeling somewhat indifferent. It's fun and short enough to never get boring, but it just doesn't reach the level of creativity and surprise that characterized the first one, nor is it as visually interesting. I don't know, at times it was kinda going through the motions and nothing more. The cast does deliver big time, with Catherine O'Hara stealing the spotlight thanks to her pitch perfect one-liner delivery. All in all, it was nice returning to this world for a while, even if it's not a particularly memorable experience.

The Flatt & Scruggs bus was driving through backcountry Georgia. Most of the bandmates were in the back huddled together over a poker game. They’d turned one of their Stetson hats upside-down for a money pot.

When suddenly.

The bus. 

Got run off the road. 

At once they’re barreling into a farm. And there’s hay flying everywhere and *CHICKENS* going everywhere and the most obnoxious racket you ever did hear. Their driver was crashing through chicken coops! 

One of the bandmates asked, “Who’s driving?” 

“It’s Paul.” 

“Oh. Okay. Deal the cards.” 

They didn’t even blink. They didn’t even care. What’s more important? Imminent death by chicken or a card game? Apparently the poker.

how does hating alison ashley not have a cult following. where are the girls who wanna look like erica? where are the girls who wanna look like alison? where are the girls who wanna look like barry hollis? where is the exactly one (1) person who thinks jeff kennard is the most babygirl man ever? seriously, this movie's costume design and overall vibe is the best I've seen in a while, and I absolutely adore erica, being the flawed, self-centered, superiority complex-ed compulsive liar that she is. I'm still shocked at how little discussion of this movie you can find online, and I think it should definitely be considered a girly classic.
