A hockey team on the ropes resorts to acting like goons to get fans back and turn morale around. A hockey precurser to Major League, I still liked it, a bunch. For some reason I thought it was going to be more...geared towards kids? A la Bad News Bears or the like, probably because of the title? Nope, more "mature" than that. From the opening scene at the news station, the fashion show at the mall, to them actually shooting at real rinks where everything looks scuzzy and used (because it was) - loved it. During their commentary track, the Carlson brothers (who play the Hansons) identified most if not all the rinks and had funny, interesting or crazy stories about what happened at each. OMG young everyone: #PaulNewman, #SwoosieKurtz, #MEmmettWalsh, #MelindaDillon, and #PaulDooley, among others. Also helmets weren't required until '79, so they're all skating around w/o them - so odd, but lot of the actors were either semi/pro players, like the Carlson Brothers (2/3rds of whom were in the movie) and #MichaelOntkean, who turned down a spot with the Rangers prior to his acting career, along with a bunch of players on other teams. Written by the sister of #NedDowd (Olithorpe) who had played with the Carlson brothers, a lot of the events in the movie actually happened to the Carlson brothers and, before deciding to make it a comedy about a hockey team, the movie almost became a documentary of sorts about the Carlsons. Somewhere between growing up and settling down... After graduating high school, Dave Stoller and his three friends Mike, Cyril and Moocher hang around town, swimming in the old quarry, getting into fights with the college kids, and inching their way in the direction of adulthood. A chance to ride with the Italian racing team he's idolizes and meeting a pretty coed threaten to change all that. Got this one for the sister and ended up really liking it (she did too.) From the comeraderie among the friends to the relationship Dave had with both his parents and that they had with each other (#BarbaraBerrie 👏🏼👌🏼) and the dad while listening to the race on the radio. So much of this I liked, the italian music Dave played, him trying to keep up with that semi truck on the highway, the cafeteria fight, the race at end, how young they all looked. A coworker knew this movie from the coverphoto i posted on facebook, and I learned it was one of, if not her favorite, movie. (I'd buy it.) At the time it came out cycling was a really popular pasttime, and she and her mothr, who was in a cycling club, have biked across the state of Illinoise about 4 times.
