Matthew Bourne's Sleeping Beauty
On Friday I went to see the ballet Sleeping Beauty that has been re-imagined by the fantastic choreographer Matthew Bourne. Having been introduced to Bourne's work a couple of years ago by my sister I was really looking forward to seeing this production.
Bourne's Sleeping Beauty has a gothic theme and involves fairies and vampires. What I love the most about Bourne's ballets is the attention to detail especially when it comes to costumes and sets. These costumes and sets were designed and created by Lez Brotherston. I love how creative they were and how it helped to create a modern twist on the ballet. Being a photography student I was also incredibly inspired by the lighting design by Paule Constable. The lighting, costumes and sets made me think that every scene could be a beautiful still.
Production photography by Simon Annand and Mikah Smillie.
