I finally found a viable alternative to Dropbox so I can get my data off from under the CLOUD Act: pCloud.
They are located in Switzerland and their storage is either there or in the EU (meaning, very good data protection!). While some EU countries do cooperate under the "Eyes" Agreement, at the very least data is under GDPR protection.
My issue so far was that pricing for cloud storage is....difficult. If I want cloud storage in my country, the price is high and/or the volume is low. But pCloud are offering plans at 1 TB, 2 TB or 10 TB at lifetime subscriptions. I opted for the 2 TB plan (which is also the storage I have on Dropbox at the moment) and I paid less than I pay for 3 years on Dropbox. Assuming pCloud will still be around in 3 years, it paid for itself (I will keep my Dropbox for the period I already paid for but hey), because they're currently running a 33% off sale.
Secure Swiss cloud storage plans with all kinds of variations. You can go with the monthly, yearly and even lifetime option! You can add enc
I make no money from this link, you can also google this one, I just think it's so neat to have an alternative.
PS: I am aware storage is *expensive*, I buy SSDs regularly for local backup and I'm not sure how exactly they will finance this, although they also do have a subscription model, which is still cheaper than Dropbox. My primary goal is to have more services I use regularly off US soil. Migrating my email will be a bigger issue (also a storage topic as well as the history of those accounts), but having more services in the EU is a good thing I'm more than willing to pay the same amount of money (or less) for.
