with the new Picard ep it’s like… on one hand I think it did handle the resolution of Ro and Picard’s storyline well, and it is amazing to see that closure after all this time.

but on the other hand I kind of have this fatigue with non-main character stories always ending in said non-main character dying, not even just in star trek, but in tv in general. it’s starting to feel like a lazy way to emotionally invest audiences instead of something that actually feels right for the character or story and that just leaves a lot of death scenes I see nowadays feeling kind of hollow and pretty predictable frankly.

It feels less like Ro was given a death befitting of her character arc and more like that they wanted an episode that resolved the issues between her and Picard but didn’t want to deal with what having her stick around would mean.

death scenes can be powerful and really well done but only when it’s done in service of the character first and foremost. with Ro it just felt like the story was following a pretty commonplace modern formula.
