A horror roleplaying game that drags you out of the comfort of your home.
You can’t even be bothered getting out of bed.
But, somehow, your parents find a way to drag you to a mental health retreat. It’s cute, small, remote... and the perfect place for a cult to operate.
Without any cellular signal, you’re forced to socialize, touch grass, manage your dwindling supply of medication, and interact with the otherworldly creature the cult worships. All while not going insane.
And no, seeing an inhuman creature does not mean you’re insane.
Have you ever wished that the classic indie horror RPGs—such as Ib, Mad Father, and The Witch’s House—had a bit more lore? Some character development? Maybe a tiny bit more spice?
No? My bad, maybe it’s just me then...
But! On the off chance that I am not alone in this, I would like to introduce you to PEAR—a psychological horror RPG with a heavy emphasis on storytelling. It’s inspired by the aforementioned games and the real life Jonestown; the events unfold in the haunting setting of a deceivingly cozy, (mostly) modernized retreat.
Through interactions with various characters—a cult leader, a doctor, a fallen angel, and Cloverwood’s residents—you discover not only the dark secrets festering in this settlement, but also the hidden truths that reside in your own head.
PEAR is a game where you, Y/N, are the main character. It’s essentially a self insert fanfiction, but playable and interactive!
I am hereby promising hot men, hot women, and plenty of juicy interactions with them. (Yes, they’re all insane and murderous. Don’t worry.)
The gameplay can be thought of as an experience akin to a visual novel with puzzles. There are other features I would like to implement, but they will depend on how much interest and fundraising I can garner for the game.
I do want to note, however, that I intend to market this as a normal horror RPG. Which means that the romance and spice will be a bit more subtle and less overt. (Unfortunately, there are more non-monsterfucking non-yandere lovers than monsterfucking yandere lovers in this cruel world.) I hope that is understandable...
But don’t worry, the romance and sexual tension is there if you just squint a little. I promise!
All future updates and announcements will be primarily made on @nepenthesremedy on Tumblr. (For those who prefer Twitter, you can click here!) If you’re interested in this game, please follow my team and I there! Additionally, any questions or comments about the game can be submitted in the blog‘s asks.
If you’ve made it this far, thank you for taking your time to read this post. I appreciate your support for my work very much! (。・ω・。)ノ♡
As promised, here’s our (brief, but existing) biweekly update!
We are currently working on and almost finished making the game’s prologue. It’s not much for actual gameplay, but it’s not nothing either. Since a lot of the work is setting up the mechanics for later chapters, it means that future progress should be faster.
In the meantime: would anyone be interested in either a Discord server or Tumblr community for PEAR? Please let us know in the comments! <3
Oh, and here’s a screenshot from the game, because why not.
Hi everyone! I know it’s been almost a year since we last posted any update on this project. For that, I am terribly sorry. To briefly explain—we ran into some issues with funding and also had real life stuff going on. It’s not very interesting, so I’ll spare you the details and instead try to provide a comprehensive update of what’s currently happening.
For starters, PEAR has resumed development! Funding issues have been resolved and the demo should be finished by the end of the year. As a small spoiler, the demo will definitely include the prologue and first two chapters of the game—which introduces our three primary interactable characters—and should include most, if not all, locations and NPCs.
Once the demo is complete, we will be able to launch our Kickstarter. The full game will include somewhere between seven to ten chapters, at least three endings, and more—depending on the support we’re able to receive. Details will be cemented and revealed once we approach the launch.
Until then, I’ll be posting biweekly updates (so it doesn’t seem like we died again) alongside progress pictures and/or any news we have. Please follow us here (@nepenthesremedy) if you want to stay informed on the project! :3
If you are following from before, thank you for your patience and continued support. For those who are new: welcome to PEAR. We hope you’ll continue on this journey with us!

This game can be considered as an interactive visual novel with puzzles, promising horror, angst, and a sprinkle of unconventional romance.
kira is the creator, writer, and general project manager of PEAR. She loves fictional characters who have more red flags than she can count. (Granted, she can only count with her fingers, so that is not saying much.) She is also trying to be mysterious and nonchalant right now but failing miserably as she enjoys yapping too much.
noodsies is the co-creator and assistant manager. He enjoys watchmaking, fighting games, noodles, and boats. He is shy so he will be rather mysterious and only slightly chalant.
nemugyo is the lead artist for this game and also a silly fish enjoyer. She is extremely passionate about bear traps. (No further context will be provided.)
StarPaintAnimus is the assistant artist. Liking blue is one of her personality traits.
Mard Silver is the game developer. He likes live origami and code. He designed his own origami Capricorn; it looks very cool!
bibi is the editor for the game’s script. She’s obsessed with gambling in gacha games and most things pink.
Sammy is the marketing consultant for this game. He’s spent years gaining unexplainable traction through unfunny social media posts and to top it off, he is also Bri’ish.

Hi! We are proud to announce that the prologue is complete! There are a few minor visual fixes still needed, but it’s at a point where the gameplay shouldn’t differ drastically anymore. If anyone is interested, send us a DM on this account and we can send a playable link for the prologue.
As for chapter one—it’s currently being developed and a work in progress. This will take a bit more time as the first chapter is rather significant in size and requires the entire Cloverwood map to be completely built. Nemugyo is working hard on the assets right now, and I (Kira) am developing the game. Peedee and Abe are doing amazing work with the plugins and of great assistance. Together, we’re all working hard to bring this to life! Here’s a WIP screenshot of Cloverwood’s map.
Have a good week! And do send a message if you want to try the prologue <3
Greetings! I have a few interesting announcements to make.
To start, I (kira), myself, have decided to take development into my own hands. I took some time to learn RPG Maker (which wasn’t as bad as I remembered it being) and with a lot of MardSilver’s assistance, eventually figured out how to do enough to be making significant parts of the game. Which not only means I also get to have it exactly as I envisioned when writing the script, but also I am able to make more intricate edits to my original work as I feel things out.
In addition, there are two new members joining the team—welcome Abe and Peedee, who have been kind enough as to volunteer their time to assist with development >w<
I know I’ve been saying this for a while, but the prologue is so, so close to being done. It’s received a lot of significant tweaks and improvements since I last updated (including upgrading the game from the original RPG Maker size to 720p!), and I’m hoping to have it finished by our next biweekly update, in time to share it with those of you following this blog.
Lastly, here’s a small silly animation that the lovely @nemugyo drew for funsies today:
Ahhh, sorry for the late update! I was in the middle of writing this post when I got distracted, and then I forgot and... yeah, basically that.
Anyway, hi! Regarding the actual update:
Development has unfortunately been a bit slower these days simply because of the sheer number of assets needed to make Cloverwood. Nemugyo is currently working on the houses right now, and we’re redrawing some of the assets for the special realm just to make things look prettier and more professional! To be honest, I wouldn’t even say that development is slow; we’re proceeding at a pretty good rate for how much there is to do at this current period of time. But unfortunately, the stuff we’re making isn’t stuff that is easily shown in an update. After we’re done with the Cloverwood map, however, it won’t take long to finish chapter one and two, which is all we’ll need to officially release the demo and start fundraising for the final game.
Oh, I guess we need a trailer, too... But that shouldn’t take too long. (Hopefully.)
Again, the game is still expected to be released by the end of the year, so things are on track nonetheless. As per usual, here’s a random screenshot of the game. This one is of Cloverwood’s entrance and admission building!
Pspspspssps! Have you ever wanted to be Y/N? Or even just have a character based off you, to some extent or another? If so, here’s your chance.
In PEAR, Y/N is going to have a few favourite books/books she’s read before. And one of the titles could be yours. If you submit your favourite book and its author to the form below, then there’s a chance it could end up in the final game! I’ll be picking anywhere between like, one to three titles from the list to add in, so it’s not a guarantee because I don’t know how many submissions we’ll get.
But as a special thank you to those who are following me here on this blog, if you write (Tumblr) in the submission, your title will have a higher chance of being considered :3
