150lbs Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt Pedro Sauer Vs 250lb Bodybuilder Mr Utah Super Fight
(via https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJsdxalAJOI)
A glimpse from our class, escaping from the “wrestlers pin” or cross body. What would you do if someone pinned you to the ground who weighed 50 pounds more than you? Gracie Jiu Jitsu provides effective answers for countless situations that can end or decide a fight.
At RCW our curriculum comes straight from Rio with resident black belt Anibal Lobo. Professor Lobo studied with mentors like Helio Gracie, his sons Rickson and Relson and Pedro Sauer just to name a few. Because of that wealth of experience RCW is one of the safest, friendliest and most authentic places to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Come check out our BJJ program to see for yourself what the right Jiu Jitsu school can do for you.
BJJ Seminar with Jim Kelly Class #155 - 06/25\16 - Today! Plus Open Mat rolls with Daniel, Jonathan, and Dennis. Learned a lot today!
Holy shit, budoblr.
My BJJ instructor invited a brown belt to come roll and give us some instruction tonight. He was super cool and gave us a great introduction to the darce choke, which I have not had any instruction on yet, so that was great.
At the end of class we were taking turns free rolling (big class over 20 tonight) and James, my instructor, was rolling with Brown belt. I was watching closely. It was a good roll but James was maintaining the top position. I was surprised sometimes the brown belt would just starfish out flat on his back. Not sure if that is something he does strategically or what. But James eventually put Brown belt in an Americana from half guard and… and he wasn’t tapping… and then I heard what I thought was a tap only it wasn’t a tap it was a pop. He laid on the mat and iced it the rest of the night. At the end of class James bowed us out and said, “Not to add insult to injury but, as Master Sauer always says, ‘Protect your joints. Don’t be afraid to tap.’” I think a brown belt learned a hard lesson tonight. Ouch.

I love listening to Pedro Sauer.
The difference in our Jiu Jitsu program in Portland is our ability to take complex principles and distill them down into simplicity. As a beginner the task to see all the details in a technique and then apply it can be daunting. Our coaches like Erik Shiley are excellent at explaining BJJ in a way that the first day beginner can understand but that the long term Jiu Jitsu practitioner can appreciate.
Take this Arm Bar from the guard. As you can see in the video shifting your head to the side and creating a perpendicular angle is of the utmost importance. Once you develop your core and get in great shape with BJJ, you can use your abdominals to shift to the side. Here we see an easier option, hook the leg and pull your head over to the side, creating the perfect angle to slip the leg over the head.
At River City Warriors we are proud affiliates of the Pedro Sauer Association and offer direct Gracie Jiu Jitsu with a first generation black belt. Our head instructor Anibal Lobo has been doing Jiu Jitsu for more than 30 years! Because of their experience we have a step by step progression to take the beginner to an advanced BJJ student in 4 or 5 years. It’s a lot like getting a college degree in arm bars, and what could be more fun than that? Thanks for reading and if you’re in Tigard I hope to see you on the mat!
