Worked on Go Outs a bit more after a long hiatus. I still haven't bought a ring stanchion so I improvised 😂 first I put her perch bowl at the end of the hallway, did lots of reps with our Perch cue which has a big history. She was joyful and having fun running back and forth. Swapped it out for a little pylon thing I have and switched to our Charge! cue which I'm using for go-outs--she ran to it joyfully still! THEN my big move: took the prop away altogether and gave her the cue toward the end of the hallway. She ran all the way to the end with enthusiasm and no signs of confusion. I am so happy! Did a jackpot and wrapped it up 🥰 wuv her
I decided to sit down and play a silly game with Nova where I'd reward her for any item she picks up off of the floor and hands to me. It cracked me up. You can really tell what she's had a lot of practice with and what she hasn't.
Things I was given:
Dog toys (many, some from other rooms (I put her toybox up on my desk beforehand because I assumed this would happen))
Canned goods (several)
Receipts
Recycling
Pieces of shredded enrichment activities
My meds
The meds she took out of my backpack
My entire backpack when I put the meds back and zipped it properly
A left shoe (a breakthrough! Shoes are a new item for her and she'd passed them over several times)
A right shoe (not a pair to the left one)
The left shoe that I'd just "put away" by the front door
I’m starting again with this new journal. It originally said “Just for me, a little selfcare”. I think it will work better because it’s undated and the layout is adaptable.
I think I’ll easily be able to hack this to be more relevant to dog training, enrichment and husbandry. And I’ll be able to put it down and pick it up without it losing relevance.
I also managed to salvage a lot of the collage stuff I glued into my previous journal so I can reuse them for this or something else in future.
Today's session was better. He was very quiet and while still seemingly confused (??? my dude you had this lunging thing down pat why is it suddenly different in Georgia), he walked and trotted for a few minutes each direction and the only fussing he did was stopping and turning towards me every so often, and then he did some nice backing and hindquarter yields in hand. Called it done after about 10 minutes total. Much more pleased with that than the meltdown central of a few days ago.
That sounds dirty when I type it out. Lol. But I really just wanted to jot down some ideas on the bjj hand slap and fist bump prevalent in most schools I've trained.
The slap and bump is more than just an "alright, go!" The slap and bump is a sign of respect for your partner akin to a bow in more traditional martial arts. It's a way of saying to your partner, "let's agree to test our skill and technique against each other in a friendly match until one of us yields."
Edmonton Marathon 2018 Training (Sub-3:30): Week 8
Hello, it is I
Get ready for a recap of last week! Felt like a great, strong week, so I’m really just hoping I can replicate that this week hahaha
Monday, June 18:
Workout: rest daaaayyyy :)
Eating Habits: kinda good but, like my usual rest day problems, I felt hella hungry
Tuesday, June 19:
Workout: 16x400 m (45 s rest) with a 2 mi warm-up and 1 mi cool-down
Notes: I felt SO DAMN STRONG during this run.
Eating Habits: honestly, pretty great. Eating a bit of oatmeal in the evening is a real life-saver the next morning :P
Wednesday, June 20:
Workout: slow 5 mi on the trails + 30 min weight training
Eating Habits: I was good today, super proud of myself for keeping it healthy!
Thursday, June 21:
Workout: 3x2 mi (3 min rest) with 2 mi warm-up and 1 mi cool-down
Notes: I am a beast. I am so proud of how well I kept it together and how steady and consistent I was throughout my intervals. HELL YA PROGRESS.
Eating Habits: pretty good today! :)
Friday, June 22:
Workout: 45 min weight training + 15 min low impact incline walking on the treadmill
Eating Habits: not bad, although on these days I face a similar problem as rest days
Saturday, June 23:
Workout: 7 mi on the trails (1 mi slow / 5 mi steady / 1 mi slow) + 7 mi biking to get groceries
Eating Habits: bueno! Ate a little more chocolate but that’s my weakness so ah well
Sunday, June 24:
Workout: 16 mi (10 mi steady / 4 mi fast / 2 mi steady)
Notes: Honestly, this run felt amazing. I only stopped at crosswalks (where I had to lol, I’m only human), I ate and drank water as I ran, my pace was sooo consistent the entire time. Things kinda fell apart in the last 2 mi, but I think that’s because I wore my waterpack too tight (I haven’t worn it in a while and probably didn’t adjust the straps well enough). Also, I took an Ondansetron right before and that EXTREMELY helped keep my nausea at bay.
Eating Habits: Pretty good all day + I rewarded myself with some tacos and beer during happy hour!
Overall Summary:
Feeling really good this week, although I can tell my body is slowly approaching its limits, so I’m lowkey looking forward to kicking back and relaxing for week 10 already. But until then, I have my first training peak at week 9...
Shape Update:
I know, finally!! Pretty pivotal because we’re at the halfway point. Not really a pure comparison because I’m not as relaxed in the now photo. In any case, not much has changed! I’ve noticed my legs getting slimmer and leaner and my core and back getting a lil bigger, but that’s about it :)
LILY HAD HER FIRST POSITIVE DOG ENCOUNTER!!!!!!!!!!
I AM SO SO SO SO SO SOOOOOO PROUD OF MY LIL WIGGLE!!!!!!!!!! Here's how it went: We were walking parallel to a girl with an oldie golden retriever female on opposite sidewalks and Lily was doing so good so I decide to stop at the corner and have her wait for the dog to show up. She's sitting and super aroused but calm anyways. The girl stops and tells me how beautiful lily is and we start chatting a lil from opposite street corners. THEN SHE ASKS IF IT'S OKAY TO CROSS and I decided to take a chance!! She crosses with her big ol pupper and BAM AMAZING BODY LANGUAGE THE DOG IS QUIET BUT JOYFUL AND SHE LETS LILY HAVE A SNIFF AND SHE'S SUPER SWEET AND HAS A LOW TAIL.WAGGING IN THAT HAPPY TO BE HERE SLOW MO PACE. Lily gets intense of course SO GOLDIE TURNS AWAY AND JUST WALKS AWAY FROM THE INTERACTION!!!! Lily keeps pushing but no yelling and minimal hackles!!!!!! Haaaa aaaaaaat!!!!!!!! Legit I wanted to cry on the spot because that other dog was so gentle but also knew exactly how to handle my overtly intruding doggo and it made my heart sing and the girl was pretty nice and she kept saying how much she loved lily and I just !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GUYS IT'S BEEN ALMOST A YEAR SINCE WE STOPPED TRYING DOG CONTACT AND IT WAS WELL WORTH IT AND MY LILY IS SOSOSOSOOOO MUCH BETTER AND THIS OTHER DOG WAS JUST PRECIOUS OMFG!!
