I want you guys to know everyone in this pictures has a combined total of 24 braincells between them all
Pelagosa and Sandy don’t typically get along well. Their relationship isn’t bad, but it’s not exactly great either. They’re more like friends via a mutual acquaintance; they hang out in a group together just fine, but it’s rare that they’ll hang out together on their own.
It’s not like you could call it anybody’s fault either. Their personalities just naturally don’t mesh. Pel’s bratty, bad girl attitude rubs Sandy the wrong way, and it doesn’t help that he’s a favorite target of her teasing. He likes getting along well with everybody, she takes no guff and isn’t afraid to rock the boat. It’s guaranteed that she’s crossed lines and hurt feelings a couple of times, at least by proxy. Her typical methods of reparations via hooliganism didn’t go over too well either.
On the other end, Sandy takes a lot of joy in simple pleasures that Pel finds about as exciting as watching paint dry. Why sit around sipping hot cocoa when there’s perfectly good windows to break? Whenever her misadventures leave her injured, or involve some “harmless” crimes, he frets over her constantly, and it’s like, ugh, she’s fine, okay?! The ways that Sandy expresses concern and care are on wavelengths that she’s just not about.
It’s not too surprising that they don’t tend to be fast friends. And yet, when you put them on a deserted island together?
Pel is a natural survivalist. In terms of caring for and providing for herself, she’s a pro. Barring some terrible misfortune, she could do this deserted island thing for as long as she needs to. The one area where she’s weak is the isolation, when she doesn’t have rad survival activities to distract herself. It leaves her vulnerable to her anxieties, and prone to terrible loneliness. Which could be alleviated somewhat if she was just, y’know, not alone. If she had a partner with her. Somebody reliable, without anything to prove, and who won’t introduce any extra drama into the equation.
Enter Sandy. His survival skills? Not great. His ability to listen? To learn? To do his share of the work, and do it happily? Top-notch. He’s got the humility (and good common sense) to know who’s the expert here, and who’s learning the literal ropes. Anything he can do to contribute, he’s happy to help with, even if it’s just boring grunt work. Every little bit helps! One of the ways he deals with stress is by trying to cheer up those around him, so he’s great to have around for morale. (Provided you can resist stabbing him over dumb puns.) And true, the situation is a stressful one, but so long as he’s got his hands busy, and somebody to direct him, he can manage just fine.
Are they perfect? Of course not. All the old hangups are still there, and there’s bound to be friction. But at the end of the day, Pel gets a reliable partner, and Sandy gets the expertise to not die. Together, they wind up being a surprisingly solid pair.
@techmomma
Oh Pelagosa. You weird motherfucker. More of Ed’s daughter, who just loves to cause trouble, be part of trouble, or just be trouble. Ed loves his darling greaser girl who can take down a sky pirate but gets in meme wars with ten-year-olds on the internet (Louie. It’s Louie.)
Underneath are some doodles of Mr. Poppeacock fighting. I don’t imagine he uses spears but I more wanted to illustrate one of his little tricks: using his tail to obscure his opponent’s view, only to part his tail and attack right through. He can’t use his tail to block, though he can use it like a fan to push away or push down an opponents weapon. Or snap on someone’s beak if they’re getting sassy. :D
Mr. Poppeacock you’re so SMALL COMPARED TO SCROOGE YOU ONLY COME UP TO HIS EYES.
Happy Birthday @techmomma!
… y your characters so tol and then Teabiscuits is… not
Saw a meme of a dad reading with a daughter dangling over his knee and had to redraw it with Ed and a younger Pel.
Agreed that Ed's favorite game is probably Untitled Goose Game. On that note, Pel's least favorite game is Untitled Goose Game, but not for the game itself.
Pictured: imminent chaos.
still brainstorming ideas for where Pel would go. Fury feels really tempting. she'd love that shit.
