Inktober Day 31- Masked Caterpillar The giant Masked Caterpillars of the Northern Forests were once elusive creatures, who were (and to some degree still are) revered as protectors of the forests. However, due to the increase in urbanization, humans have encroached upon the habitats of these creatures (and that of many others), forcing them to either venture into human territory or perish. Being frugivores and natural scavengers, Masked Caterpillars have adapted quite well to suburban living. Nowadays, they can be found in one’s backyard at night, plucking fruits from low hanging branches and foraging in trash bins. This can be quite a shock initially, when one switches on the porch light to investigate the noise, only to see something as tall as a man staring right back at you. But you’ll get used to it. Do not, however, attempt to chase them away. Masked Caterpillars have a habit of releasing a noxious-smelling gas when they feel threatened (they fart when scared)! While they are now less elusive than they once were, Masked Caterpillars are still pretty shy. Although if you encounter one, and are very, very lucky, it may allow you to pluck the dandelion that grows on its back. Once you do, consume it right away and you will gain the ability to see creatures and things that are usually hidden from human sight. ❤🐛 P.S., 🎃Have a spooktacular Halloween, guys and ghouls!🎃
