It’s not something that you do massively, but when you start bickering with one another, it takes a lot for the two of you to stop bickering again. You go back and forth for what feels like forever sometimes as you both remember something that you want to say in the hope that it’ll shut the other up.

Whilst dealing with upset people isn’t exactly a strength of Peniel, he always tries his best to try and cheer you up whenever you’re feeling down or not yourself. Usually, you disagree when you’re both deciding to be good to one another, especially when you want the other person to decide rather than having to make any sort of decision yourself. Peniel would want you to decide, and you’d want Peniel to decide which ultimately led to the two of you falling out as you tried to get the other to listen to you and understand why them making the decision was better.

The two of you just seemed to click almost as soon as you met, almost as if the two of you had been friends for years rather than no time at all. You found yourself warming to Peniel, as he did to you too which made getting to know each other such an easy job for you both. The two of you had a habit of getting too competitive with one another whenever you did anything. My eyes burned when I tried to open them. My head hurts so bad I wanted to knock it against the wall. Am I down with a fever? I strained every muscle in my body to sit up and limped my way to the table with the thermometer. True enough I’ve fallen sick, great.
I groaned as I held onto my painful head and made my way to the kitchen for some medicines. Digging for my phone around in the living room, I hurriedly made a call to my brother. It went to voicemail straight before I found a note on the fridge from him that said he went to work and will be back probably tomorrow morning. He needs to work a little harder now that I’m going off to college.
After taking my medicine, I fell on the sofa as I was too tired to head back to my room. I dozed off unknowingly due to the drowsy effect of the medicines. I was awaken by the jingling sound of keys. Struggling to open my eyes, I saw someone entering the main door of our apartment. I tried to sit up as my eyesight tried to adjust itself from sleep mode.
“Oh shit, Y/N. I was looking for your brother I didn’t know you’re here.” I heard Peniel’s voice.
I shook my head to keep myself awake. “He went to work he said, won’t be back so soon.” I managed to say with all the energy I gathered.
“You alright?” He asked, stepping towards me. I felt his hand on my forehead.
“You’re burning.” He commented. “Let me get you back to bed.” He suggested. I found myself nodding as I have nothing to retort with. With an arm around his shoulder, I felt his other hand holding me by my waist as he helped me back to my room.
It’s so embarrassing to be so vulnerable in front of my crush. Yes, unfortunately, it just had to be my brother’s best friend. I once overheard their conversation when he was in my brother’s room about the rule of not hitting up his sister. “Not my sister, bro.” My brother said. And my heart broke, knowing the chance that we are impossible. But this stupid crush has went on for so long that I got tired.
He watched me sit on the bed and I slowly laid back. I felt him pull the blanket up to my shoulder and left my room. Out of energy to ask him to stay, I eyed his back leave as my eyes slowly closed on their own record. When I felt myself zoning into unconsciousness soon, something cold touched my forehead. My eyes fluttered open to Peniel’s frowning expression as he tried to damp the cold and wet handkerchief to bring my temperature down.
“Take some rest, Y/N.” He cooed when he saw me opening my eyes. Something in his voice made me relax and my eyes closed once again.
Sleep overtook me for as long as I could remember. When I opened my eyes again, the sky outside my window was dark. I tried to push myself up and get out of bed. Stumbling my way out to the kitchen, an aroma filled the apartment. I was greeted by a back who was busy at the stove. My heart skipped a beat at this heartwarming scene. If only this is what my future looks like.
“Something smells good.” I said weakly. Peniel turned around to flash me a grin.
“Take a seat, it’ll be done soon. How are you feeling?” He turned fully as I took my seat at the dining table. I nodded my head slightly.
“Still alive.” I mumbled as I gritted my teeth at the discomfort.
“Have your dinner and take your medicine. Do you need to visit the doctor?” I waved my hand to disagree. “Let’s not waste money on that.”
“That’s not wasting money. If you’re not well by tomorrow you should.” He frowned.
“Ok ok, sir, I will.” We laughed at my joke before he resumed cooking. The migraine wasn’t going away so I had to close my eyes for a little while as my dinner was in the making.
The aroma shifted to the front of me. My eyes snapped open at it and saw a bowl of pumpkin porridge on the table. My lips lifted by themselves at the sight of food. I stirred a little before scooping a small spoon of it and blew it cold for eating.
“How is it?” His eyes sparkled as he eyed me trying what he did. I would be lying to say it’s bad, it’s actually really good.
“You’re a genius.” I murmured before digging for more. He let out a breath and smiled.
“What about you? You should leave before it gets late. I’ll just let my brother know you came.”
“You expect me to leave knowing you’re ill? Not a chance, Y/N.” He arched an eyebrow as he leaned on his arms that was propped on the back of the chair.
“I don’t want to waste your time too, you can leave, I’m really fine.”
“Never gonna happen.” He said before turning back to the kitchen to reach out for a bowl and got himself some porridge.
He tried it himself and hummed. “It really is not that bad.” I laughed at his reaction. This is exactly why I had a crush on him. He gets amazed at everything, small or big. And his reaction is so real and naive. He may be older than me but sometimes he has the heart of a kid that makes me want to take care of him instead.
“Why are you looking for my brother though?” I asked before scooping another mouth.
“Just wanted to hang out, brat didn’t tell me he was working.” He shook his head and sighed dramatically. “Does he know you’re sick?”
“Called him but was transferred to voicemail.” I shrugged.
“So irresponsible.” I laughed at his joke. My brother isn’t like this all the time, just coincidentally when I’m sick.
We carried on with small conversations about our lives. Our bowls were empty in no time. I offered to wash up but he insisted me to rest and not do anything else. I rolled my eyes but smiled at him being so sweet. I inwardly sighed at myself, knowing I’ll still be head over heels for someone beyond my boundary.
I felt myself dozing off on the couch hugging a pillow when I heard him call for me. He was standing in front of me with my medicines and a cup of water in his hands. I swallowed the pills with the water and thanked him as he placed the cup onto the coffee table. Deciding to stay up until the drowsiness kick in, I turned the TV on as he sat on the sofa, creating a safe space between us.
I surfed among the channels and apparently nothing caught my attention. I sighed and passed him the remote, “I’ll just rest in my room. You really don’t want to leave?”
He shook his head with a small smile. “I just so happen to like being around you.”
I felt my heart fluttered as he turned his body with a leg folded up onto the sofa. He shrugged before running a hand over his hair. “Darn it, your brother’s gonna kill me for his.” I felt my breath stopped at my throat as he continued. “I know I really shouldn’t but I felt myself falling for you everytime I see you.”
I chuckled nervously, not knowing how to react at the sudden confession. “Peniel, you do know we are -”
“I know, Y/N. I know that so darn well but I can’t help myself. Your brother knew, that’s why he warned me.”
My brother knew? He knew it all along but kept it from me?
“I know you may not have the same feeling towards me as I have -”
“I actually do.” I cut him off. His eyes stared into mine as they widened. “And here I thought you’re the one not having anything for me.” I brought my knees up and hugged them, trying to hide my blush.
I felt him pulled my hand towards him. “So what do you say?”
Before I could say anything, the main door was slammed open. Both of us snapped our heads towards the direction and gasped.
A couple was walking by you, excitedly talking about something you couldn’t hear. Maybe it was about a movie they recently watched or the newest gossip about that one friend who kept causing trouble, who knew. They walked past a child, which was trying to teach a dog some tricks, but the dog kept stealing the treats sneakily. The sky was blue with a bit of gray and the trees were full and beautiful. You laid your head back and let it rest on Peniel’s arm, serving you as a pillow. Now in a more comfortable position you could continue watching the other people in the park, who were running, sitting, laughing and talking. You could feel your boyfriend’s arms tense a little as he changed his position a bit, now sitting more turned towards you. His other arm fell around your waist and you let your hand mindlessly wander up and down from his fingers to his shoulder. You could stay like that forever. Right there, in his arms.

You were on your way to the grocery store with your big brother – Peniel -, huffing and puffing like a toddler because you were doomed.
You went out with your friends the week before and ended up getting drunk, so your parents got mad at you. It’s not like you didn’t get drunk before but they never knew about it. You usually stayed at one of your friends’ house and only showed up at home when you were sober again.
Yet, you weren’t so lucky this time. You were so tipsy that you didn’t care where you were going, you just wanted to sleep. It didn’t even cross your mind that you would get caught by your overprotective parents. The alcohol numbed the sensible part of you.
Peniel tried his best to cheer you up but considering the fact that he was chosen to be your body guard while your parents were away for a romantic weekend, you weren’t in the mood to act like you were happy. You almost felt like he was babysitting, so you couldn’t leave the house (except for grocery shopping of course because Peniel couldn’t even tell the difference between the white rice and brown rice), nor invite friends or do anything that your parents would find inappropriate. For a week at least.
This was until you saw a cute little stray dog wandering on the streets, looking lost and helpless. Judged by the desperate look on its face, you could tell that the puppy was abandoned for a long time and you didn’t have the heart to merely pass by the fluffy creature. Instead, you crouched down and patted its head.
“Poor little thing! Who would want to get rid of you?” You said, pouting at the heart-wrenching sight. The little puppy’s fur should have been white but it was grey from all the dirt that covered its body. Its eyes were oh so sad, its desperate whimpering tugging at your heartstrings.
A sudden idea hit you as you examined the little dog. You turned to your big brother to share your idea with him. To be precise, to convince him that it was a good one.
“Peniel…” You cooed gleefully, the sudden change in your behaviour obviously taking him by surprise.
“Oh no! I know that look on your face.” He said cautiously, not knowing what was waiting for him. You had several silly or even impossible suggestions in the past, small wonder why his eyes were full of doubt.
“I know you haven’t had the best experience with dogs in the past but look at its face…” You pointed to the puppy, hoping that its expression left such an impact on him as it did on you.
Truth to be told, since Peniel was a kid, he tried to avoid dogs as much as possible. A bulldozer once bit him and no matter how many years went by, he still couldn’t recover from the shock the incident gave him.
“Please, please, can we keep it?” You even tried your best puppy eyes but he merely let out a regretful sigh in return.
“You know I don’t really have a say in the matter. Mom and dad should decide whether we can keep it or not and they are not too pleased with your behaviour lately, so I’m not sure the puppy would be a good idea.” He reasoned quite honestly but you couldn’t blame him. He didn’t want you to get too carried away just to get your heart broken.
“Please, please, please! Maybe you can talk some sense into them.” You pleaded, suddenly pumped up after hours of moping.
Maybe it was your puppy eyes or the first smile of the day on your face but Peniel didn’t turn you down. At least not immediately. His eyes scanned the little puppy beside you and you swore you could see a hint of longing in his eyes. Wait what? Your brother was worried about a dog? A REAL DOG?
“I can try but I’m not so sure it’ll actually work.”
“I don’t care!” You exclaimed as you jumped up and down in front of him. “We’re going to have a puppy, a cute little puppy and−“
“I’ve said there’s a chance they won’t let it stay with us.” He warned you like a responsible big brother should but even he couldn’t help a tiny smile forming on his lips.
“You are the best, Peniel! Thank you so much!” You thanked him and immediately crushed him into a big bear hug because you were too restless to contain your excitement. He laughed at your reaction and hugged you back.
That’s what a big brother should do after all. Taking care of his little sister and trying his best to cheer her up.
Even if you have been complaining for hours and acting like an annoying little kid, he wouldn’t want to see you suffer even more. That’s why you loved him even more.
If there was one thing that you could always rely on Peniel for, it was affection. He would never turn you away if you needed a hug, although quite often it was him that made the first move and held onto you anyway.

The boys adored you, mainly because they could see just how much Peniel adored you. They hated that he was away from his family for so long, but although they could never be replaced, you did a pretty good job, which the boys always appreciated too, knowing that Peniel had someone else looking out for him.

He was a great ear whenever you were going through a hard time, it didn’t matter how big or small your problem was, Peniel never left you to go through it alone. He would sit still, and not say a word until you had finished ranting, and then once you were done, he would give you plenty of advice on what to do next.

You tended to do most of the chores as Peniel was so busy, which was something that he absolutely hated. He tried his best to pull his weight, and so when you’d do his jobs, Peniel would make sure to scold you, reminding you that you needed to rest too. He would try and do the majority of his jobs in the morning so that he could get them done before you noticed him and give you less to come home to at the end of the day too.
E ⇴ ENGAGEMENT
The most important thing for the both of you after you got engaged was letting your families know. Peniel especially was keen to fly home so that he could share the news in person with all of his relatives, to get the chance to see their faces and tell them all about it without a delay like you got on the phone, and in the case of some of his relatives too, finally give him the chance to introduce you to them properly.
F ⇴ FAVOURITE THING
Peniel’s favourite thing about being with you was the comfort that knowing that he always had someone with him brought him. Wherever he was in the world, he knew that he had you by his side, being able to turn to someone whenever he needed them was something that he often missed out on, but whenever he needed you, you were there, which was something that he was incredibly thankful for.
G ⇴ GOING OUT
The two of you were quite social as a couple, you tended to instigate quite a few plans too so that you could catch up with your friends. From time to time, you liked quiet evenings at home, but most of the time the two of you liked to head out, even if it was just the two of you finding something fun to do.

Your honeymoon was far from conventional, mainly because the destination of it was actually home. There was nowhere else in the world that the two of you wanted to be more, you didn’t care if it was cold, raining, or if there was very little to do, the company that you had was what meant the most to you both.

Actions over words was definitely how Peniel showed you that he loved you. Quite often, he found saying it aloud in front of you a little awkward, and so he much preferred to come home with a gift or organise something nice for the two of you to do as a way of telling you just how much he lovd you.

There are very few times whenever Peniel gets jealous, he trusts a lot of people, especially his friends, and tries a lot of the time to see the good in people. The worst thing for you is that when Peniel does get jealous, he’s able to hide it very well, he can force a smile onto his face and be polite, even when he doesn’t want to be, and so quite a lot of the time when he has jealous moments, they go unnoticed by you.

As the two of you began to settle down, the conversation around starting a family became more and more frequent between the two of you. Quite often, Peniel would ask you how you felt about starting a family so that he could make sure that it was still something that you wanted, ensuring that your mind didn’t change.

Your lazy days tended to be more like lazy afternoons with Peniel as he still liked to stick to his routine in the mornings. Once he had been to the gym and ticked off of all of his little jobs for the day, his afternoon would be dedicated to you, but no matter how many times you tried to convince him to give the gym a break for just one day, he would refuse, knowing that he would feel a lot better for it.

The mornings were when Peniel thrived, he loved to wake up early and get started, however, you enjoyed a nice lie in in bed. He tried his best to encourage you to get up with him, but Peniel often knew that he was fighting a losing battle, getting most of his jobs done before you even got out of the bed.

For Peniel, affection is often his way of showing you how he feels, whilst he has a tendency to be quite quiet, being able to hug you and hold you is his best way of telling you exactly what he needs from you in that moment.

When the two of you first met, he was incredibly shy, barely even able to say hello to you without one of the other members introducing him. It was that that you found incredibly endearing in Peniel, and slowly over time, you began to get to know more about him as he relaxed in your company and settled himself down.

Confessing to you was a terrifying feeling for Peniel, even though he knew it was exactly what he wanted to do. It took a huge pep talk from the other members to give him the confidence to confess to you that evening when the two of you went out for a walk. Admittedly, it might have all been a bit cliché, but Peniel couldn’t deny how proud he was of himself for taking such a big step and telling you exactly how he felt about you.

Peniel is a huge foodie, and food will tend to be the centrepiece that most of your dates revolve around. You can’t recall the last date you went on without at least stopping for food at some point, sitting back as Peniel carefully photographed it to upload and show off to the fans too. Peniel always makes sure to research the best places to take you to, whether it’s street food, or something a little more sophisticated, he always makes sure to highlight the good spots in town that you can go back to again and again.
E ⇴ EXPERIENCE
Although Peniel was known to be quite the romantic amongst the other members, when it came to dating, he was pretty clueless on where to start. It was something that the other members loved to tease him about, often setting up different roleplays for him to get some experience, with Eunkwang or Sungjae typically being the ones to mimic you. They knew how important you were to Peniel, and in their own slightly dysfunctional way, they were determined to help out and give him plenty of confidence in your relationship.
F ⇴ FIGHTING
It’s a habit of Peniel’s to keep his feelings bottled up, and not always express exactly how he’s feeling, which can in turn often create a few squabbles between the two of you. It’s hard for you to understand him at times when he’s so closed off, when all you want is to know how he’s feeling and see if there’s anything you can do to help him. Although it never turns into a massive argument, you are often left feeling frustrated by how secretive he can be with his feelings. It’s something he works hard to work on, knowing how much you care for him, and how you’d never think any different of him for being a little more open and honest.
G ⇴ GETTING TO KNOW HIS FAMILY
With you now in his life, Peniel found himself calling home a lot more, especially as his parents and siblings often asked how you were doing more than they did with him. Peniel was surprisingly the first of you to say those three words, well, written down anyway. He was far too shy to say aloud how he felt, so instead he wrote a love letter to you, posting it through your front door before quickly running away out of fear. In most situations Peniel can stay pretty calm, he’s a positive person and likes to only see the best in people, and so jealousy for him is a very rare emotion to experience. That’s not to say he doesn’t get jealous from time to time though, he’s just very good at hiding it from you, as with many other emotions. He tends to ignore a situation that can make him jealous, stepping away and letting you handle things, joining back up with you when you’re ready, smiling across at you, pretending that nothing has happened for him.

He’s incredibly open with you about how he dreams of having kids in the future, it’s something he’s spoken about before during various interviews and podcast episodes, and so it comes as little surprise to you the first time Peniel brings up a family around you. You know how good of a dad he’ll be by how calm and understanding he is, and he’s had to put up with the humiliation of the other members for so long, kids would be a walk in the park for him.
L ⇴ LAUGHTER
Peniel always manages to do an incredible job of making the people around him laugh, he’s got a wicked sense of humour that always puts a smile on your face. Although he isn’t quite as loud as some of the other members, you adore how he’ll silently make you chuckle with even the simplest of jokes. His positive outlook on almost all situations often leaves you with smile on your face too, even on the worst of days, you know that Peniel will be there with a better spin on things that will leave you feeling a little more optimistic and in a much better mood than you were when you first saw him.

As with most things, when he’s missing you, Peniel will try and find the positives and not let himself get too upset about things. Instead, he’ll count down the days and reflect on each one as another step closer to being reunited with you, a thought that always puts a smile on his face. Even when he is struggling with missing you, neither you or the boys will be able to tell, he’ll ring you with a smile on his face and plenty of stories about how his day has gone or how the show was. Of course, when you tell him you miss him, he’ll say it back, but he won’t open himself up too much further than that, not wanting to upset you.
N ⇴ NICKNAMES
He loves to use nicknames from home for you, things like ‘darling,’ tend to crop up a lot rather than using Korean nicknames. Instead, the other members will love to tease you, and him, with ‘jagi,’ always used on you.
O ⇴ OBSESSION
Peniel is obsessed with your eyes, he can’t help but stare whenever you speak, enjoying seeing how passionate you are about the things you love.
P ⇴ PDA
Being affectionate in public isn’t something either of you are big on, the attention that comes with it is something you’re not a massive fan of. Instead, Peniel will often just hold onto your hand, enough to know that you’re there with him, but also not too much that you can still get about without too many people noticing you.

He’s always asking you what you think about different locations for date night, asking if there’s something on the menu that you’d like or if it’s close enough for you. He always takes your opinion into consideration when deciding.

Although for the most part Peniel is quite private about your relationship, he’ll love talking about you on the podcast. He shares plenty of stories about the two of you in the hope that the listeners will be able to relate. He can’t help but brag about you whenever Matthew or Ashley mentions your name or if a question sounds like something he can answer, he’ll find a way to weave your name into his response.

He always makes sure to take the best care of you when it comes down to intimacy, Peniel will never allow himself to be put first, it’s always you, and then he’ll allow you to take care of him. He’s always soft whenever he kisses you, so much so that you can always feel how big his smile is when he kisses you.
