“I have to go find her Dad.” Ben wasn’t sure why he felt the need to go find Mal, after all she had just stolen from the shop. “She needs my help.” But his gut told him that there was more to the story than just what he knew.

“oh, wouldn’t we all.”     there’s a rehearsed chuckle that leaves her lips almost too gladly, and a smile that can’t be put off by the smell of pulled grass and dirty soccer bibs. the sun is shining, which makes a welcome change for metropolis, and ruby darts up and down the pitch to the sound of her own mother cheering her on. (it makes her sad, momentarily — there’s a dull pit in her stomach that reacts this way sometimes, like tar that needs something else to latch on to. lillian never made it to a fencing bout, and no matter what sport lena’d tried her hand at, there’d been an empty seat to the side that lex would fill in as the ever-supportive brother before he went crazy. ruby is nothing but lucky to have a mother like sam.)

“though i think sam would have something to say about that.”     there’s a gentle brush of her shoulder over kara’s, before offering a supportive go ruby! and a couple of awkward hand claps in the meantime. (sam’d invited her — something about a championship game that she was almost too certain that lena would be too busy for. a quick meeting with the japanese office and a trip downtown to kara’s loft later, and they’d been on her jet to metropolis with just moments to spare. meetings can be pushed back. family is different.)

While Mr Gold was out of the shop doing some official business in the town, the Professor (or David Smith as he was known to all the cursed denizens of Storybrooke) was left to look after the shop. He walked past the walls - looking at all the decorations and items there - when he heard the door open and the bells jingle. He turned around and saw a young woman enter. He smiled and walked into the middle of the shop to meet her. “Can I help you with anything?”

“I’m not someone who you can save.” Winn took a step away from Kara. He thought that he had run far enough that she wouldn’t be able to find him, yet here she was, standing right in front of him. He could see that it was hurting her, the Kryptonite that was now part of him causing her pain. “You need to let me go.”

“I didn’t intend to get in the middle of it.” Ben countered as he set his backpack down. He wasn’t exactly great at hiding his black eye, but he also knew that his father was smart. He was going to figure it out pretty quick. “It just sorta happened.”
