Today I Learned...

Your phone dying in a Pepboys waiting area will create a liminal space.

I went to Pepboys today to get one last thing repaired so my car would be inspected for 2019, but i didn’t realize my phone’s battery had run down, and while i was waiting for my car to finish it ended up dying completely. They had a TV in the waiting room that was showing the FIFA World Cup, so i was watching that while I waited. I’m not interested in watching sports, but I didn’t change the channel cause sometimes one of the mechanics would come over and check out the scores and I didn’t want to be a dick.

So i’m waiting and waiting and it feels like a while, but i figure time just feels slower cause I’m bored. Finally I can’t take enough, and I wander over to the desk, and one of the guys tells me he’s just finishing up my paperwork and then I can go.

I never even saw them bring my car into the garage, but sure enough, it’s in a different space when I go outside so they must have done something.

I don’t bother plugging my phone in cause I’m not too far from home, and I just wanna go, y’know? I walk in the house, kick my shoes off, and my dad goes. “Wtf, you were gone for three hours??”

Three hours. I had literally no notion of the time passing. They had an analog clock in the waiting room but it had no hands so i had no idea. I feel like a lost a part of myself in that waiting room. A small portion of my life is just gone now.

TL;DR: Bring a phone charger with you next time you go to Pepboys, or else you’ll be caught in the FIFA Zone for who knows how long.
