Verbena wants to take her relationship with longtime friend Drake to the next level, but it seems that no matter what she does she just can’t get the point through to him! It isn’t really his fault, they’re both too shy to be blunt about their feelings. She knows subtle hints won’t work, but maybe distance will give Verbena the courage she needs? After all, she’s so much more lively (and dare-say flirty) when she’s texting under her Instagram persona “Pepper”. Perhaps a string of spicy DM convos will be what lights the fire in their secret garden? ;)

Now if only she could convince him to sign up...

A couple things about this.

First, I want to believe that Rake just takes THEE WORST photos of people. Like terrible lighting, no edit, blurry messes and he just doesn’t mind whatsoever, but he takes the BEST photos of his garden and nature LOL. Also because he’s new to Instagram he just has no clue what aesthetics are and he’s definitely the kind of person to post Facebook mom memes. He also only follows his friends and then later a string of elderly women who have a gardening club, which he joins. 

I also picture that he becomes overly flustered by Pepper’s flirting and doesn’t know how to respond so Jester, who’s drinking this tea up, steps in and starts to type for him. Which of course leads to some silly shenanigans. Which THEN leads to Lavinia finding out and thinking that Jester is cat-fishing Pepper and two-timing her and WHOO that’s a whole drama in itself and a great tie-in huehuehue.  🤭 🤭 🤭

*modern au* *they're older* Pepper, who heard weird noises coming from the bathroom and came to investigate: Rake? What are you doing? Rake, standing in the bathtub, fully clothed, spraying his potted plants with the shower head and playing faint thunder sound effects and jungle animal noises on his phone: I want them to experience the rainforest.

Rake: Well, parties with Pepper are different.

Smithy: Different how?

Rake: You know how at a party you can just pick a corner to hide in and feel safe? Pepper is my corner.
