I am so stupid, how am I just realising that every one of the crystal gems represents an oppressed class in our society
Garnet represents queers, that's the most obvious one, how she not allowed to exist because the fusion between two different gems is treated as being "inherently wrong" yeah.
Amethyst is disabled in context of gem society, she's "scrawny runt",she's seen as "defective" and also peridot mentions how she's perfectly capable despite being a defect. Is how society views disabled people to be incapable.
Pearl is a tricky one, she could represent slavery or women, but one could argue every gem is enslaved. She is made to serve pink and is treated as servant by homeworld gems. They're always treated as "belonging" to someone. She's an 'accessory' she's just a peral as peridot puts it
And Steven is biracial coded, since gems view human as less life forms which is close to how racists justify their ideology.
So what I'm trying to say is it's crazy how peridot is racist, homophobic, ableist and sexist
Also we're not better than gems
