people are severely misunderstanding why percy didnt side with luke/kronos.

no, it wasnt because poseidon claimed him. no, it wasnt because sally raised him. no, it wasnt because he was at camp for less time. no, it wasnt [whatever else people say]

the reason percy didnt join luke is because KRONOS FUCKING SUCKS. HES GOING TO HURT PEOPLE. NOT JUST PEOPLE PERCY CARES ABOUT, MOST FUCKING PEOPLE IN THE WORLD. HE DROVE SOMEONE INSANE WHO WAS ON HIS OWN SIDE. percy would never join kronos because hes not just the worse option- its because hes going to hurt so many more people than the gods would!

also percy is so empathetic, even if he doesnt care about someone hes still going to try and make sure theyre okay. (see: ethan in botl, the demigod he told to get off the ship when they were blowing up the princess andromeda in tlo) he cares about people. not just specific people in his life, people as a whole. we see it in how much he loves new york city too and how his worst nightmare is camp being destroyed. not sally specifically dying, not annabeth specifically dying, his community dying. he doesnt care about one specific person (unlike luke who id argue his main reason for turning is because of thalias fate), he cares about people as a whole. im thinking of the deleted scene in tlo where theyre moving the unconscious mortals out of the way and he runs into nancy, he considers messing with her- then doesnt. because it was never just about a single specific person. if it was, then hed only care about annabeth. if it was, then hed mess with nancy. but its not. its about people as a whole. and if kronos wins, then so many more people get hurt.

sallys not the reason he didnt side with kronos, luke not having enough time to convince him isnt why he didnt side with kronos, poseidon claiming him early isnt why he sided with kronos, it was percy being a genuinely kind person that cares about the people and world around him that made him not side with kronos.

like. im sorry- do you actually think that if one thing was changed and percy did join kronos, that hed actually hurt people? that he would sit by and let people on his team hurt others? poison camp and put hundreds of demigods at risk? sacrifice someone on his own team for exploration? can you actually genuinely imagine percy jackson sitting by and letting the side hes on go around hurting people? because anytime i think of him being on kronos' side, it ends with him seeing how many people theyre hurting, and leaving. he knows the damage thatll happen to the world and the people in the world if the gods are destroyed and kronos rises, and you think that because his father claimed him thats the only thing stopping him? that sally raising him is the only thing stopping him (she is a big part in why hes so empathetic, but a good amount of that is also his own doing). that not being around camp/the gods for a less amount of time and not seeing the pain thats caused is the reason he didnt join kronos? again, kronos would do more harm.

percy would never intentionally be the reason anyone would get hurt. he hated luke but he mourned him when he died. he went out of his way to try and not hurt demigods that were trying to kill him.

the main time hes ever intentionally caused someone actual harm was when ethan stabbed annabeth, and when percy was in life or death, fight or flight and high off adrenaline. no fucking shit he lost his mind. IT WAS THE MIDDLE OF A FUCKING WAR. no ones gonna act rationally.

anyway there is no world in where percy would willingly join kronos because he has always put people before himself and knows when something will lead to a better or worse outcome, and kronos is the worst outcome in this situation.

Pjo hc that percy dreads turning 19 because that’s when Luke turned over to Kronos. He’s already bitter and jaded and just throughly exhausted feeling like he can’t keep up with life now that he’s not confined to a fixed death date and he’s now going to have to face luke when he looks at himself in the mirror.

I think post the second great prophecy percy starts visiting the spot where luke betrayed camp, him personally, every summer. Maybe in a weird way is cathartic for him

The Show VS The Books

I generally don’t go on PJO fandom despite being part of it for years due to the toxicity sometimes so I’m unsure if this is a hot take but 

THE SHOW IS BETTER.

Look this is just my opinion but hear me out. The Percy Jackson show is much more thought out than the books. Yes the books are iconic, nostalgic and I wouldn’t change them but that was made by one author and editors. The show has much more resources, opinions which allows the show to be much more thought out than the original books and allows more Easter eggs etc….

Rick did a beyond magnificent job with the books but from a technical standpoint the show is better like yes did it forget things like the Gabe explanation (which has been bugging me for so long) but I also view it as the second chance. Those things that Rick wanted to change but couldn’t or things that  could have been much better are getting that chance with the show like the acknowledgement of Thalia’s chances of joining Luke which we see in some degree come to fruition in the Titan’s Cure but wasn’t portrayed earlier from Annabeth’s view, yes we know Percy doubts etc… but the allowance and acknowledgement of how short Annabeth’s relationship with her was is quite honestly so special to me. (DON’T MISINTERPRET I ADORE THALIA WITH ALL MY HEART SAME WITH ANNABETH) 

This may not hold and I will always keep the books sacred but the show removing (decision factors like sentimentality and nostalgia etc…) is better.

Listen. A lot of people mischaracterize Percy Jackson. Mischaracterization happens a lot, in all fandoms. But the number of people that doesn't understand persy is ridiculous. No bb, he's not a hot playboy sea guy that wears gold chain necklaces around his neck, and he's also not a shy, pathetic little boy that needs saving. If we look at Percy through the lenses of human psychology as if he was a real person, we can see how bro has both weaknesses and strengths. Because real people and well written characters aren't one dimensional.

Yes, he has childhood trauma that probably affects him in various ways till today, his dad abandoning him, his step dad abusing him, kids at school bullying him, ect. He's not helpless and weak and brittle, but he's human and these things, especially the first two, leave huge scars that aren't that easy to brush over and forget.

He's kinda and loyal, not a weak minded pushover. He (acts and later is) confident, he's not a playboy heartbreaker.

Also, I'm the book, we hear his thoughts not what he actually says. He's pretty Introverted and wouldn't say at loud a lot of the things he thinks about. I know a lot of people like to project their ideal relationship/partner onto fictional characters, but please find a character that actually fits the description you want it to have.

Also fuck I wish I was good at writing so I could write some stuff about pjo (character analysis, character X reader, opinions on the books, ect)

⚠️percy jackson s2 episode 6 spoilers/sea of monsters (book)⚠️

during percy and clarisse’s argument over whether to give luke the fleece grover’s positioning intrigues me so bad. he wanted to be a mediator so bad but with his history with annabeth luke and thalia, and his friendship with percy and annabeth (especially w/their empathy link) he never stood a chance.

and i love how absolutely scary that is, not knowing where his feelings begin and percy’s end.

and that’s not even getting into the body horror potential of the empathy link. not knowing whether your emotions are your own or someone else’s, feeling the pain of another on top of your own, and let’s not forget that if one of them were to die to other would whether a catatonic state (or die of heartbreak)

i could point out the beautiful parallels between nico's crush on percy, the crush he developed due to childhood trauma and intense hero worship and hung onto even after he thought his hero betrayed him, and annabeth's crush on luke, the crush she developed due to childhood trauma and hero worship and held onto even after her hero betrayed her, and how both of their crushes are commentary on their upbringings, nico's being how grief and internalized homophobia caused him to latch onto the beautiful hero that saved his life, annabeth's being how growing up neglected and unwanted caused her to latch onto the first person who showed her any attention and how that attachment only strengthened in their shared grief, and how those parallels extended to show how their respective attachments left them vulnerable to manipulation yet ended up not joining the dark side, ironically in part because of percy, either because of the crush (nico) or in spite of the crush (annabeth), and how those crushes contributed to their overall character arcs, nico's being to learn to let go: of grudges, grief, and his own self-hatred as a two part climax on that one page of boo and the cocoa puffs in tsats with will being the catalyst to making him see his own worth, annabeth's being to learn what real, healthy love looks like (a spot of irony: percy taught her this, which is contrasted with her typically being the person to teach him stuff) in contrast to what she ultimately got with luke which was manipulation, because luke, also being a neglected kid, never learned what healthy love looks like, but you guys are not ready to hear that so instead i'll just try not to cry at the hypocrisy of the pjo fandom's obsession with nico's crush on percy while refusing to see annabeth's crush on luke as anything more than a disgusting mistake

i think it’s interesting how in the book, percy killing ms. dobbs is described as “the only thing that comes naturally” that being percy swinging the sword and turning her to dust, and him killing the minotaur is almost accidental, he snaps the horn off by ACCIDENT and happens to come up with it positioned to kill the beast and how that contributes to his feelings of inadequacy, whereas in the show so far, him killing ms. dobbs was a complete and total accident, and you can actually see some of the thought process in the show of him ripping the horn from the minotaurs skull and driving it through his brain. idk once you get down to it, it shows a very stark difference between this is something that is happening to me to this is something i am doing, my mother told me monsters are real and now one took her from me and what i can do is take it in return and i do think it’s also exemplifying this tonal shift that the show has taken by not having percy’s inner monologue to explain his thought process as events unfold, and also their stronger focus on relationships and building up camp life to an extent
