THRONE ROOM POWER COUPLE LOTURA, AND LANCE AS A PERSONAL BODYGUARD, BUT OFF THE CLOCK TEASING LOTURALLANCE WHERE ALLURA AND LANCE ARE ADORABLE AND LOTOR LOVES TO TEASE LANCE ABOUT ALLURA, also the ultimate power couples
Y E S. also Lance and Lotor play-fighting (SWORD SPARRING) for Allura’s attention and she just keeps sending them these fond and amused looks (Coran be like “shouldn’t we stop them Princess” at some point probably 😂)

these are my thoughts as i scream into the void http://tfwnoshiro.tumblr.com/post/171460558897/alrighty-so-screaming-under-cutmore-so
@percysiriusdragon some interesting points! (more under cut since i’ll be talking spoilers)
Lotor: It might just be wishful thinking, but I feel like this was the season that said, in big neon letters: WE SHOULD TRUST LOTOR. Before, we’d only gotten glimpses of his plans and his true feelings about things, and for the most part, his character was shrouded in mystery. This season, we found out quite a bit. 1) Why Lotor was trying to harvest quintessence (aka, his motives) and 2) why Lotor was exiled (aka, a glimpse at Lotor’s true character). In my opinion, those are the two main things that set Lotor up as “Not A Bad Guy”.
I maintain my opinion that Lotor is still very much a morally grey character. He’s a character that is willing to do objectively “not good” things in order to obtain a higher goal. He’s no Allura, who’s just a wonderfully good person to her heart. But like... I actually forget who said the line, I’m like 89% sure it was Lotor, but BASICALLY this isn’t a zero-sum situation. Just because Lotor isn’t a saint doesn’t mean we, and Team Voltron, shouldn’t trust him.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I was pretty concerned for a while there, myself, that Lotor would end up double crossing them. And honestly, it wasn’t until the White Lion episode that I finally decided “Yeah, I’m gonna trust him.” And you know what? Because when Lotor failed the test, and was obviously upset about it, and Allura passed the test and gained the knowledge of her forebears, Lotor handled that failure... dare I say, gracefully. He was just sort of like “I guess this just wasn’t for me. I’m not the chosen one like you, Allura.” And for someone that has literally been searching for this place and the answers it would offer for centuries, that really says something to me. It tells me that he really is willing to do what is necessary to bring peace to the Universe.
(Who knows, I could be completely wrong, but until we know for sure, I’m going to take the GIANT ASS NEON SIGN OF TRUST this season thrust in our faces and run with it.)
Quintessence: Let’s not forget that Altean alchemy and the Lions all run on quintessence as well. I don’t think quintessence itself is evil. I think it’s... sort of like the Force (from st@r wars) mixed with, like, nuclear energy or something. It’s honestly all pretty vague, though, and idk if we’ll ever get any definitive answers. Voltron as a show tends more towards “soft science” than “hard science” (a la “soft magic” and “hard magic”). I guess I’m just not super worried about Lotor’s motives regarding quintessence, though, again, I don’t have all the answers. It’s just my impression rn.
Shiro: I’ve got NO IDEAS my guy, I’m just super concerned!!! I don’t care if he’s “real Shiro” or “clone Shiro” or what the fuck ever, I just want him to stop!!! Suffering!!!!! Please @ season 6, do me a big ass favor and resolve this plot line!!!! End my suffering!!!!!!
Haggar: SHE WAS SO GREAT THIS SEASON!!!!! HOLY SHIT!!!! That moment when she remembered that Lotor was her son, I had a HUGE “oh shit” moment!!!! cause like, I had been working, up to this point, on the idea that Haggar knew she was Lotor’s mom?? Especially after her Honerva flashbacks. But I was totally wrong! So I’m having to do some re-evaluation of what’s goin on with her. Also, I just about died when she recruited Zethrid, Acxa, and Exor. Dream fucking team. I have nooooo idea what’s going on with Haggar and what’s she thinks of Lotor beyond that I think she’s.... fighting her corruption? And that’s how she’s regaining her memories? So sometimes she’s more Honerva and other times she’s more Haggar? Maybe? I don’t know....
Allura: SHE WAS SO GREAT THIS SEASON!!!!!! I could yell a lot, but like!!! FINALLY seeing what’s goin’ on with her glowing magic and shit. SHE’S THE CHOSEN ONE, SHE’S THE HEART OF VOLTRON, SHE’S GONNA SAVE THE UNIVERSE, HELL YEAH. And yesssss Allura being the leader and her cute little moment with Lance and the sword. AAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaa this was a great season for Allura<3
Lance: I... wasn’t surprised by him at all? I really enjoyed him, and his moments of jealousy are... exactly what I’d expect. He’s grown a lot in the last few seasons, but he’s surely not done growing. He’s a jealous type of person, has been since the very first episode. (I mean, he literally made up a rivalry with Keith cause he was jealous of his piloting skills.) Like, jealousy is sorta a defining character trait of his. He’s gotten a lot better at managing his jealousy, but he’s pretty clearly fallen hard for Allura. (That scene where they sent messages home and Lance was pissed that Hunk brought up other girls, and yeah he was also thinking about his family, but Hunk was also bringing up other girls in front of Allura.) Anyone else notice that we haven’t seen much Lance flirting lately?? And I don’t count Lance getting excited over fans during the Voltron Show episode. Lance loves attention, it’s not the same as flirting. ANYWAY I was super happy over his family stuff (we have some names!!!!!!), how he took on the right hand/red paladin role in Keith’s absence (showing his growing maturity and skills), and the bits of @llurance content we got<3
Hunk: beyond the one food joke that fell sooooo flat I can’t believe they kept it in (when Hunk asks about the krem... thing, I’m so bad at names lol, and asks if there will be food or a feast), and the fact that there just plain wasn’t much of him, I was pretty pleased with what content he got, especially all the Pidge interactions and then the Pidge, Lance, Hunk, and Droid part lol. AND THE PART WHERE MY BOY SIDED WITH LOTOR for just a sec, but listen, any interaction between Hunk and characters beyond Lance and Pidge (with whom most of his interactions occur, barring that one Keith ep) makes my fuckin heart soar.
Sam, Matt, and Pidge: I’m also satisfied!! Very happy^^ I also agree, Sam’s beard??? I very good look ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Keith: I was sad there wasn’t much of him, actually, since he wasn’t in last season much, either... I’m hoping for some big Keith action next season. Probably with the conclusion of Shiro/Project Kuron’s arc??? Or perhaps more stuff with his mom?? Who knows, but I expect we’ll be seeing more soon.
“Is there anything you wouldn’t do,” Shiro had asked once, “even if it would allow us to defeat Zarkon?”
Allura had thought about it--considered it seriously. Because when it came down to it, there’s a lot of things she would do. Horrible things, even, if it meant freeing the universe from Zarkon’s grasp.
“I would not sacrifice innocent lives,” she’d decided, finally. “I would not purposefully put anyone in harm’s way that did not choose to be there. Our victory would mean nothing if it came at the cost of those we are meant to protect.”
This conversation is running through her mind now, an endless loop that taunts her. Somehow in her naivety she’d thought she’d never have to actually face that choice.
But now the only thing that stands between the near-obliterated lion now being carried back to the limping castle, and the massive galra warship--bigger than she’s ever seen--determined to finish the job, is a tiny planet, green and beautiful and full of life. Sentient life, but not space-faring--helpless against the onslaught of the galra, should they choose to unleash it.
And so she faces a choice: push her battered and tired and so, so brave paladins onward against their foe without Voltron to aid them, to their certain destruction, and therefore that of the universe as well; or to allow this vibrant, living planet and all the people on it to buy time for their escape. Innocents that never chose to be here, that were never offered a choice at all.
It hurts, but deep in her hearts she knows she has no choice, either.
“Paladins,” she calls, and if her voice cracks no one points it out. “Return to the castle, now!”
If she cannot save everyone, she can only make sure that it isn’t in vain.
