Aeryn was the first OC I ever made for Tolkien's world, after reading the books for the first time. But her story has been fleshed out a little!
Aeryn's parentage was to her unknown, for she'd been abandoned at a village when she was just one year old. She was first thought to be a boy-child, and told the village-people that she was, in fact, a girl-child when she was 15 human years. This village was in the far Rhûn, and there she was given the name "Widris", which she used until she discovered her heritage. She was, in truth, the daughter of another village's chieftain with a Lindai (Nandorin) trader. Aeryn was a name picked randomly, to disguise herself.
The truth was revealed to the village by the unknowing Blue Istari, who assumed she knew. In their fear, the village's people cast her out, and she wandered the land, until at the end of the First Age, she found the Drúedain, who accepted her for a while before she left, thinking they would not tolerate having a half-elf in their ranks. Aeryn then continued to wander, and thus she won herself the epithet "The Wanderer," because she never stayed in a place too long. Eventually, she settled in Lóthlorien, and was taught archery and how to wield a sword. But also Sindarin, a language that tasted bitterly on a too-mannish tongue.
She fought in the Last Alliance with the Galadhrim, and in the retreat she was caught amongst the lines of the Elf-lord Elrond Peredhel, who accepted her in Imladris.
With all possible living kin long dead, she found herself a family again in Imladris, learning ancient battle techniques alongside Glorfindel. Aeryn proved to have Foresight, also, a gift quite uncommon amogst the Elves, so she was a trusted individual in Imladris.
When the War of Ring approached, Aeryn volunteered to join the Fellowship, and Elrond agreed, because she was a powerful warrior, and that was what the Fellowship needed. She went with the three hunters to search for Merry and Pippin, whom she'd become great friends with, and survived until the end of the Third Age.
After that, her heart grew weary of these lands and she felt the Call of the Sea; decicing then to sail alongside the ring-bearers. In Valinor she found her peace, and was offered the Choice of the Peredhil by the Valar themselves. Naturally, after living among elves for the past two ages, Aeryn chose to be counted with the Eldar. She didn't search for a long-lost mother, instead, she chose to serve Elrond as she'd done during the Third Age.
Aeryn's name was inspired by Aerin's, the mortal maiden in the Children of Húrin. (Her OG name was Aearoniel, but it sucks, imo.)
She was the main character of my first ever tolkien fic, too, but that one isn't published, LMAO.
