Don't stand out, Anna-doll. People who stand out get cut down.

Her mother's words echoed in Anna's ears as she folded her hands over her knee. Applying to work at JUSTICE tiptoed along the edge of her mother's well-meaning advice. No one stood out more than superheroes.

"Do you have any questions for us?" her interviewer asked.

Anna tilted her head. "Did you need me to demonstrate my ability?"

The interviewer looked down at the papers in front of him. He tapped a spot by her name and nodded. "You may."

With a small smile, Anna reached across the table and touched the side of the interviewer's mug. The coffee warmed back up like it was fresh.

He took a sip, a genuine smile slipping through the corner of his lips. "Perfect indeed."

Anna left with full confidence.

At home, perched in her chair, she searched for JUSTICE and starting assembling her database of photographs and names. People liked when you remembered their name.

She was going to be liked. She was going to be the assistant everyone wanted on standby.

And, once she'd worked her way into the meetings at the highest echelons, she was going to find out who among the so-called heroes had cut her mother down.
