##5 November 2016 - CHPT.01 presents Do Not Open w/ Do Not Open Gallery

The DO NOT OPEN O1 event is a collaboration between the Chapter 01 collective and the Do Not Open gallery. It is a cycle of performances whose first episode took place at the Maritime Garden of Brussels, a precarious occupation in Moleenbeek Brussels. During this event, artists were invited to create an installation linked to an artistic performance. For almost a month, the artists invited to participate in the first cycle invested a precarious occupation and have created a space dedicated to Performing Arts.

Each artist, curated his space in one of the cabinets shown in the picture above: painters, musicians, DJs, dancers, comedians and poets have worked with their hands to set up an art piece. During the even a ceremony master designates a person in the audience who will open one of the cabinets. And the performance corresponding to the installation in the cabinet begins : the artist emerges from the silence and put the medium with which he works in action.

Introducing: Haus of Sequana (UK)

All the way from the club & alternative scenes of the London urban jungles, this time we have the pleasure of introducing the eminents of Haus of Sequana! Haus of Sequana is an all female urban tribe, working with ritual performances that challenge conventions and hierarchic structures. If you didn’t know them before, Saturday is your chance to experience them LIVE, komsi komsi. We took a quick online chat with one of the members, here’s what happened:

Where in the world are you in this exact moment? In Sorunda and in Deptford

What ticks you!? Colours and mischief

Do you have certain interests/subject matters that you tend to return to? The expansion of bodies through rituals

How do you come up with new work/topics? Through an intricate and long process only a true Sequana can endure

What Do You Do For Fun? Dress up with the tribe and go on adventures

Dance or Dinner? Both, preferably in combination

Audio or Visual? If I must choose, I would have to say audio as it usually is more of a full body experience for me.

Rhythm or Bass? Rhythm

Who is your favourite artist? Spineless and Sublime, CandyKonk, Kimatica    

What role does the artist have in society? To act on impulse and as a reminder that everyone is free to explore anything

What’s your favorite art work? I usually like performance pieces or works of art that have several elements to them but I cannot say a specific one that is my favorite.

What should we talk more about? How to live without money

What wouldn’t you do without? My life companion Håkan, the wooden duck

Tell us a little about the work you are participating with on the FUTURE LEGENDS APRIL 11! Our piece is called Mother Tongue. The ritual performed aims to unlock codes that keep our bodies within certain systems and patterns. The performance starts as a procession where we are all part of the white reindeer that is the sacrificial animal. In Same culture she is called Beaivi, she is the sun. We sacrifice parts of ourselves to be able to grow. Before every performance we prepare for hours by painting each others bodies and dress in costumes designed to protect and help us to enter the state of mind needed. Our tribe consists fluid number of entities from all over the world and being based in London, the influences come from places even beyond this world. We are on a nomadic travel through subcultures and spiritual expressions, language and raw feeling.  

Favorite movie? Romeo+Juliet

What about LOVE? As Rupaul says; If you can't love yourself, how the hell you gonna love somebody else? AMEN!
