Overall stuff. The casting was okay, I’d still would have preferred less famous pretty people, but it wasn’t terrible and all worked well enough with the characters.
The cgi in parts was not great, but the Pretty cgi was honestly really good. The special CGI was horrifying, it was wonderful
They massacred Peris, the way his character was handled was terrible. Part of it did set up better movement for the story, but he’s not suppose to think Tallys pretty, that’s Shay and David’s job. Dr. Cable being like a public figure honestly kinda makes sense in a storytelling way, but I wanted that big reveal
The whole sneaking across the river and Garbo Mansion was just slightly off, mostly because of Peris, it all seems to go back to him
I understand why they sped up Shay and Tally’s bounding, only so much you can put into the movie. But the fact they didn’t go to the ruins till the night Shay ran away?? Despicable
Also why the frick frack is the smoke and David so talked about amongst the uglies? For the point of speeding the story up? Fine sure whatever
The whole movie had to be sped up, which I get, the neeting dr cable scene was okay all things considered, and then Peris actually did his job. The whole journey was a disappointment, again I get it, and they still did a decent job conveying the emotions and stuff
I honestly kinda hate the narrative change of the white orchard
The lack of time in the smoke was disappointing but again, fair
Honestly if they just left Peris alone, the movies would have been so much better. That whole raid scene made me so made, it changed the whole end of the movie
With the changes, they did also change Tally’s character a bit too much for my liking. You don’t get too feel her confusion, her weighing of every decision, you don’t get her depth
Shay also felt so much more shallow in this movie, she didn’t have her depth, she is kinda the stereotypical dystopian hero set up in the book, but it just happens to fall to tally. Shay just felt a lot flatter
As far as adaptations go, it’s not terrible, but I do think some of the changes, specifically with Peris will have lots of consequences as the narrative continues
and it better, because it was enjoyable in the end, I get to see some of my favorite characters make stupid decisions instead of having to re read it
