asgore what plants do you prioritize in your garden? ones that look pretty, ones that attract certain bugs, ones that scare away certain bugs, etc

“All of the above! Especially in a harsh environment like the Underground, a mix of plants is key to a healthy garden! You need plants of differing heights so they don’t shade each other out, nitrogen fixers, phosphorus fixers, mulcher plants that shed a lot of leaves or cover the ground closely so you don’t get as many weeds, and yes, plants that attract bugs and scare away bugs. I believe the humans call this “permaculture”; apparently their usual method of growing food is getting big machines to spread a lot of the same kind of seed and spread a bunch of fertilizers and pesticides that get into rivers, and even “organic” produce isn’t much better for the soil or the plants because they just use organic pesticides. But of course, I prefer plants that look pretty or taste delicious! Ever since we learned how bad for you “conventional” crops are, I’ve gotten into growing food plants again and trying out new tea plants - not in the throne room, though, that’s covered in a wildflower mix again, like it used to be, before - and I send them over to Toriel for the kids with whoever wants to be my “official royal messenger”. Everyone from Monster Kid to Papyrus to Undyne has volunteered, and I think they all have a lot of fun with it; it’s really very sweet. Just to clarify, I don’t send notes or anything weird like that - anymore.

//mun note - if anyone is interested, I do drop hints about angst stuff in a lot of these and the reason I’m bringing this up now is that Asgore’s throne room, in my headcanon, went from being covered in many types of flowers to being covered in golden flowers only to being covered in many types of flowers again. Also ask me more about permaculture and buy local heirloom crops if you can, they’re better for you and the environment and taste better.
