Oh just one more thing - do you have any tips for digital drawing? Any tutorials/websites that may be worth checking out? I use Sketchbook Pro for my drawings. I've been pretty happy to just experiment with the tools and features, especially now since I have a tablet, but there's a lot I don't know and I'm not really sure where to start. Thanks :)
Yeah! (I hope you don’t mind that I’m publishing this one but I’ve gotten this question a few times and I think it might be useful to other people)
I’ve actually never used Sketchbook Pro, but a lot of digital art programs boil down to pretty much the same features so you can adapt a lot of tutorials to your own art program even if they’re not exactly the same. I have a tag for art tutorials, so you might find something helpful there. And here’s a very outdated but still probably useful tutorial I made awhile back that goes through the basic process of digital art.
Although those tutorials may be helpful, I prefer to use youtube to find tutorials. I’m a more visual learner so I like to learn by watching–it’s what I’ve done ever I first got into digital art. That way you can learn by watching other people draw and follow along instead of reading text which can sometimes be unclear. You don’t even have to be watching a tutorial, specifically. Even watching speedpaints is a useful way to learn, especially if you’re a visual learner like me.
If you haven’t done so yet, the best thing to start with is learning about how to use layers. These are really important and they’re one of the best things about digital art because it helps you keep things nice and neat. Some of my more complicated drawings have consisted of about 50-100 layers! Here is a tutorial I found that goes through how to use layers on Sketchbook Pro. I haven’t watched the whole thing but it looks useful.
Remember, digital art has a steep learning curve and it can be frustrating at times, but if you keep practicing you’ll get it. Good luck! :)
