So, Games not over yet, analysis as we go on that’s how we do here, but I think it’s REALLY neat how Zenkichi and Goro actually mirror each other.
On the one hand we got a guy who’s doing everything he can to protect what family he has left, where Goro is actively trying to ruin his dad’s life.
Both are in the legal system, but where Goro doesn’t particularly care about, if not actively abuses the fact that the system is broken, Zenkichi is actually pretty torn up about it.
Indeed, their approaches to what is ostensibly their jobs are exact opposites since Zenkichi does believe in the idea of law enforcement, that they’re supposed to be protectors of the people, the innocent and all that, while Goro is actively making criminals of people and committing crimes under the cover of law (a thing Zenkichi Rails against in fact!)
Going further, and obviously, you got the Dad Trying to Protect his Kid vs the Kid trying to Destroy their dad, but in both cases the mom in the equation dead/out of their lives due to someone in the system fucking them over.
Even their persona mirror each other, In that both are Noble Criminal types, but the way that they react to things are very different (Robin Hood Mocks the System, and actively aims to cause it trouble vs Valjean who opts to help the people around him rather than rail against the system)
It’s neat! I’m sure there’s more, but this is kinda off the cuff so...
