literally the first shot of the episode was already amazing.... goro and makoto, next to each other, like super definitely mirroring each other. nodding in synchronization. it’s very subtle but i definitely feel like it was intentional, having them mirror each other in such a way.

sojiro chasing futaba around the cafe was like. endearing and hilarious? it’s so family-like. and futaba calling sojiro dad and sojiro crying over it. i have so many emotions about this goddamn father figure that we all need in our lives

i hope there’ll be more of goro showing off his stupid intellect in the casino next episode... they took away some of it by giving futaba focus in this episode, which isn’t a bad thing because i love futaba, but i still really want to see goro being the pretentious intelligent bastard he is in-game in the casino... it’s like the ultimate “god i can’t not fuck him” thing? i just really need it ok

but i’m still not over goro getting involved in sojiro’s confidant. i’m living. he was involved with yusuke’s confidant and now he’s involved with futaba through sojiro’s confidant. i know there isn’t enough time for him to get quality time with all the teammates (unless....) but i’m living for this. this is why i am alive, to witness goro getting the role he always deserved but didn’t get in-game. i’m so fucking alive dude

and still... sojiro giving ren the chess set because it’s just ren and goro who use it anyway..... that shit’s so fucking cute and i’m in tears? i love dad. i love goro. i love everything about all of this it’s so goddamn good

THE AFTER-CREDITS THOUGH? i’m extremely disturbed by them making ren look so shocked after hearing they were sold out. does this mean anything? do they know? what does it MEAN

i really goddamn love how they like... switched between in-palace activities and confidant meetings.... learning from shinya. talking to hifumi. connecting all of it to their in-palace activities. it flowed really well and added an extra level to everything the PTs do in the metaverse and i kind of really super loved it.

Goro Appreciation Week Day 5: Favorite Anthology Chapter // Favorite Funny Moment

the takoyaki incident may very well be the funniest moment in the game. he was trying to act so cool and then everything came crashing down the second he grabbed the wrong one. i love this idiot so much

ok i’m a bit more calm now after p5a ep26 so i’m gonna elaborate on a couple of my points

i do not have a problem with What they did. i fully expected the cliffhanger; i, myself, consider it brilliant and the only right way to pull it off in a serialized animated medium. building up goro as a savior before having him kill akira was smarter than what the game did, admittedly, and gives goro a stronger role than he had in the game. not to mention that he already had a stronger role than he did in the game, what with him getting Actual Honest To God Confidant Episodes and him spending legitimate time hanging out with (aka learning how to control) ren. i have no problems with what they did, or that they did it at all; i know many were hoping for some differences, however unlikely they would be, in the interrogation room and what happened afterwards. i would be lying if i said i wasn’t at least partly hoping for some changes.

what i have a huge problem with is How they did it. everything, literally everything up until goro pulling a gun on ren was great. “is that what you thought i would say?” was genius. but what happened afterwards, how the interrogation scene was played off - that’s what i have a huge problem with.

it was rushed. which is the worst thing that could have happened for a scene that has massive implications on some characters. goro came in, pulled a gun on the guard, shot the guard, and shot ren so quickly you could miss it. it happened fast, and aggressively - as much as i love the angry, messed up goro in the engine room, i honestly couldn’t stomach goro walking out of a room with a dead man in it calling him “attic trash”. it’s just not a good look. everything happened too fast.

then, the episode ends and you learn that it was the last. well, not quite; there’s still a couple ovas that are getting released later on. but that’s just not the right way to treat the final quarter of the video game getting serialized, right? like this is the literal game ending they’ve now postponed until later. the ending that they’re going to release a couple months after the serialization has ended.

the thing is - this kind of shit is okay to pull in video games, it’s okay to pull when there’s something quickly following up on it. but- you can’t just- you don’t end a serialized anime like this. you don’t. especially not with so many unanswered questions. it’s frustrating. especially when you know what happens, you know the character motivations, you know all of that. it really was easy to read a different angle into p5a up until the final episode, and it managed to build it up so well up until it completely tore it down again. by rushing the interrogation room scene.

i think, what hits me the most is just that. you know how in the game, it’s so entirely obvious that goro is the traitor? all throughout? just in everything, from his confidant updating automatically to how he drops information on you. from how he appears as soon as the phantom thieves have become exposed to the public eye to how he’s never quite in the group. the anime managed to Not Do That, but instead play off on having him turn his rescue of ren into a murder. while the game had the unexpected turnaround being akira’s survival and the insane scheme they pulled off, the anime tried to pull off goro’s betrayal as a surprise. i only have my two friends who’ve been watching the anime without playing the game as my sample of people who are unfamiliar with the game to go off of, but so far it really does seem to have been played off as a surprise - a much bigger one than the one in the game, at least.

idk, my thoughts are getting lost again. i still really and honestly wish goro would’ve been monologuing more and taking a bit more time easing ren into the idea that he’s getting killed. i really kind of like how the scene played out in the game, but this? this was a mess. and i’m still kinda upset at how rushed it was and how it ended up portraying goro. and then just leaving it open until they release the ovas sometime later.

admittedly i was tired as hell from the con weekend when i saw it last night so i honest to god could not react properly to it BUT

GOD BLESS THE INCLUSION OF THE TAKOYAKI INCIDENT

GORO MOTHERFUCKING AKECHI FUCKING SQUAWKED AT THE SPICY TAKOYAKI I CAN’T UNHEAR THAT SOUND FOR THE LIFE OF ME

my only beef is that he wasn’t completely red in the face while being tortured alive by the spiciness of that takoyaki but hey at least he was sweating buckets so i’ll forgive a-1 this once

I MEAN HE EVEN ASKED POLITELY IF THEY MINDED IF HE HAD SOME? UNLIKE IN-GAME GORO WHO JUST GRABBED ONE AND WAS IMMEDIATELY PUNISHED FOR HIS HUBRIS

a bit sad they omitted futaba pointing out that goro seemed to realize what group he was talking to by commenting on how they were all present but oh well

he still blackmailed his bitch ass into the group and honestly i do not have beef with that because, does anyone honestly believe he did it voluntarily? that him blackmailing his way into the group isn’t the specific plan set up by That Bitch? if goro was honestly in control i’m pretty sure he would have done it differently but since we all know he isn’t,

NO “HONEY, I’M HOME” I’M HONESTLY A BIT UPSET

LISTEN THAT WAS THE SINGLE BEST LINE IN THE GAME I WOULD’VE LOVED TO SEE IT IN THE ANIME TOO

at least he played chess with ren and owned his ass to symbolically show that he’s the one leading them along at this moment

i wonder if they’ll play more chess in a later episode or not...

also i’m SO GLAD toranosuke showed up.... my favorite adult confidant for sure and one of my favorite social links in the game..... i’m so proud of him for growing and learning
