Victoria Santa Cruz ‘Me Gritaron Negra’ Activist, choreographer, and composer Victoria Santa Cruz worked closely with her brother, Nicomedes Santa Cruz, to create spaces for black theater in Peru. Her poetry performance 'Me gritaron negra (They Shouted Black at Me)' follows her own childhood experiences of racism and her later embrace of her blackness as a source of pride. The performance addresses black experience in South America, which is often denied and devalued by dominant cultures and regimes, despite long histories of Afro-Latino traditions throughout the region. By forcefully uttering the words “¿Y qué?” (“So what?”) to the rhythm of clapping hands, which also sets her body in motion, Santa Cruz calls for self-empowerment and black pride. #SupportBlackArt #VictoriaSantaCruz #InternationalWomensDay #PeruvianArtist https://www.instagram.com/p/B9f9s71B9wP/?igshid=8ufxm94e1qfx

Venancio Shinki - Surrealism Venancio Shinki (April 1, 1932 – November 17, 2016) was considered one of the most outstanding Peruvian painters...His work was inspired partly by travels through Ecuador, Mexico and Peru, but in its symbolism it also reflected his admiration for the works of Bosch, El Greco, Klee and Mir; with its subtle range of tones and textures and its undefined forms it also expressed elements of his Japanese heritage. His paintings have a mixture of Eastern, Western, and Andean themes, with a distinctive surrealism that shows an intriguing and unknown universe, set off by a purified technique and a renovated figuration. #art #paintings #peruvianartist #peruvianart #peruvianculture #artist #painter #painting #artistic #contemporaryart #surrealism #surrealist #surrealistpainting #oilpaintings #visualart #symbolicpainting #visualculture #culture #artblog @expositionblog https://www.instagram.com/p/Bx4Z2fUIg-T/?igshid=l62l4ug7wwoh
