Wyatt is not the only resident of the tank that collects snails. At least it makes it easier to scoop them (the snails) out of the tank!

@ fish people what would you recommend for dealing with pest snails? I've got a few in my tank, right now it looks like 3-5 but there's probably more in the gravel. They're all really small so I was considering using chemicals, but I'm worried about hurting my plants. I don't want to get an assassin snail, though. Any suggestions?

Honestly, if there’s one thing I’ve at least accepted about going forward being more courteous to myself about the problems I just have to live with...

It’s that I’m mostly going to need to keep lower-maintenance pets, and quite often those are insects and arachnids, or require feeder insects and/or soil creatures (detritivores) in order to be that low maintenance.

And with this one it’s gone beyond acceptance and is resting squarely in “I’ve completely revived my love of all things creepy crawly I had when I was a kid that was taught out of me by the adults around me who were scared of them” territory, and I regret nothing.

I am so in love with my filter-feeding shrimp, snails of multiple types, and little soil creatures (mostly amphipods as far as I can tell, which are super cute little itty bitty shrimp-looking things [x]). The fish is great and all, but as much as he is technically the centerpiece of the tank... everything else going on is so fascinating!!

This is Chili! I saw him at PetSmart today, in the next town over, and they were selling him and a bunch of other bettas for $3.99, and baby bettas for $3.49. He looked absolutely miserable and his water was filthy and he was obviously crammed into one of those tiny cups of water, so I got him and a heater, and took him home to be with my pond snails. I plan on getting more plants for him, and some betta food, like those tiny bugs they sell, tomorrow when my money comes through. Anyways, I just wanted to show you guys what I did!
