Yes, and I expect a higher level of realism in my special effects today than I did in 1984, too.

I’d like to have more queer characters and characters of color in my modern Doctor Who, as well as better looking aliens. Should I be content with having a 1980s-level of that content, too? I don’t think so. Time marches on, and in many ways the world gets better (and admittedly in others worse) and as far as sci-fi goes, there’s been great technical improvement in the last thirty years, and that includes the storytelling.

I will never understand why people think “we did it years ago and it worked just fine!” is a good explanation for something being done again today…
