“Peter, there is a seat next to (Y/n). You can sit there,” The teacher brushes him off, gesturing toward the empty seat next to you.
He groans and accepts defeat, flopping into the seat beside you on the empty chair. His whole plan of this being his shot with MJ had fallen flat far too quickly.
“You wouldn’t have been my first choice either,” You comment to him, shifting in the seat as you pull your earphones out from your bag.
“No, no, sorry,” He says quickly, “I didn’t mean it like that, it’s just that I thought-“ He sighs, “Forget it. I’m Peter by the way.”
“(Y/n),” You respond, “I’m still the new girl and the one friend I’ve found is ill, so I think we’re both starting out pretty shit.”
He lets out a little laugh, “I’m sorry. Let’s start over. How long have you been going here?”
“About two weeks,” You say, “They thought they’d throw me on this trip as a good way of getting to know everyone.”
“Well it’s probably not a bad idea,” He shrugs, “What music are you listening to?”
“Here, it’s a new album,” You hand over one of your earphones which he hesitantly puts into his ear.
It’s an easy way of settling into each other’s company and it gives both of you an opportunity to think of enough conversation topics to last for the travelling time. You didn’t know many people at the school and had never been the best at introducing yourself to many, absolutely dreading the thought of having to face this entire school trip without the one person you thought you could rely on to keep you company. Part of you was damn relieved that the other seats had been taken and Peter ended up next to you. The other part wondered who he wanted to be with instead.

It’s an hour or so later when the album has ended and the two of you settle into normal chatter.
“You can’t be serious!” He exclaims, “You’ve never seen Star Wars?”
“I’m sorry but I don’t understand it,” You defend, laughing at his absolute horror.
“Okay, I’m not letting that pass, you have to watch it. I’ll explain it to you,” He assures you, “I can’t believe you’ve never seen Star Wars.”
“What’s so good about it? I don’t get it.”
He deadpans you and blinks a few times, “It’s brilliant, okay? You’re watching it, end of discussion.”
“Okay, alright, fine,” You shake your head, “But you’ve given me big expectations now.”
Peter smiles at you and takes in your appearance for what felt like the first time. You seemed understated. Your hair was pulled out of your face and it somehow managed to shadow all of your features perfectly in the poor, natural light.
“So, (Y/n), how come you ended up in Queens?” He asks, head resting back against the chair as he feels himself relaxing more into getting to know you.
“My Dad travels a lot with work, we’re never in one place for too long,” You explain, “So, I ended up here to hopefully stay until I graduate.”
“It’s not such a bad place to graduate from,” He assures you, “I’m just surprised that we didn’t meet each other sooner.”
And just like that, the conversation continues with such ease that you find yourself wondering the same thing. How had you not met him before?

“Well, thank you for making this journey go a little quicker,” You smile as the two of you follow the crowd through the airport until you’re all told to stand around so they can count you, “I’ll see you around.”
“Hey, um, I’d be happy to spend some more time with you... if you, you know, if you want to,” He smiles bashfully, adjusting his grip on the strap of his rucksack.
“Peter, you’re really sweet. But I wasn’t the one you wanted in that seat, go and find who was originally meant to be with you,” You encourage, walking ahead to try to create some distance between you two.
You don’t see how his shoulders drop a little or his lips part like he’s trying to find the right words to say. And no amount of science can tell him how on Earth one flight had changed so much of what he thought he knew.

The next day, the group are all piling onto the coach once again and you’re relieved to have met a few people who seemed nice enough to spend the remainder of the trip with.
“Here, sit with us (Y/n),” One of them encourages, gesturing to the empty seat beside them.
You’re stopped from responding as Peter comes up behind you.
“There are two seats there, if you want,” He seems far too nervous to make a bold move but you’re impressed at his attempt.
“Are the other seats taken?” You smile a little, glancing around.
“No,” He cuts in quickly, “But I found out I could get Star Wats on my phone so... do you want to watch with me?”
“Sure,” You smile, taking one of his earphones and shuffling close so that both of you could crowd around the screen to watch.
You’re about twenty minutes in when he gets a notification pop through on his phone from ‘Aunt May’
‘Hello Honey! Hope you’re safe and that your Peter Tingle is under control ;) Miss you already xx’
You smile a little at the message as he quickly tries to swipe it away from the screen before you can read it.
“That’s- that’s just my aunt May. She’s just checking in,” He nods, cheeks turning a dark shade of red like a switch had just flipped.
“Your Peter tingle?” You raise your brows, “Do I want to know what that is?”
He scratches the back of his neck, “She’s just joking, it’s um, well it’s just that...”
“Peter?” You break through his fumbling, “Should we just carry on with the film?”
“Yeah,” He lets out an exasperated breath, “Yeah, okay.”
You find him stealing a few glances in your direction as you try to understand the film he’d spoken so proudly of. And, somewhere along the line, you forget that this ever happened because of an unwanted mistake.

You find yourself spending more and more time with Peter as the week passes until he’s asked you to go out with him one evening. He said he’d found somewhere cool and was asking if you’d want to go with him. How could you possibly say no when he’d asking was so bashful?
“So you’re going out with MJ tonight? Is this when you finally make your move?” Ned nudges him excitedly.
“No, no Im going out with (Y/n),” Peter explains, tucking his phone into his pocket and checking his appearance once again.
“(Y/n)?” Ned exclaims, “What kind of a player are you?”
“I’m not a player. She’s really nice Ned, and we’ve spent a lot of time together. She’s sweet.”
“Does she know...”
“No,” Peter cuts in, “And I’m not planning on telling her, she doesn’t need to know. I like her and I don’t want to mess this up.”
“How did you move on so fast?” Ned frowns, brushing his teeth.
Peter glances at his phone where you’d just texted to say you were ready, “I didn’t expect it either.”

That night, Peter walks you around the city and only stops when he realises how to say what he’s been trying to this whole time.
“I just wanted to apologise, (Y/n),” He cuts through the tranquility between you.
“Apologise?” You frown, stopping with him as you listen to what he was about to say.
“I think I came off pretty bad when I first spoke to you. It’s true, I set up this whole plan to sit with Mj on the plane and maybe see how things went with her. Up until this trip I was certain that what I was feeling for her was a definite crush,” He explains, a little too quickly to be confident, “But then I spent that whole journey with you and it was all I could think about. When you got off that plane, I couldn’t think about anything else.”
You swallow the lump in your throat and can’t help but smile a little at how adorable he had the ability to be.
“I really think that I like you (Y/n),” His voice sounds so precious as he says the words and it baffles you that he still has such an innocence, despite his muscular form.
“I think I like you too, Peter,” You smile, thankful that he’s blushing too.
“Oh, right, okay, because I was thinking you maybe felt a bit-“
“Peter?” You cut in, “It’s fine. Things change, I know that. Up until that plane, I had a major crush on Brad.”
You’re joking but it makes you laugh even more when you see his face fall.
“We should probably get back to our rooms before they realise we’re missing,” You suggest, starting to make way back to the hotel.
Peter readjusts his posture like he’s regaining confidence as he walks beside you, a little closer now then he had been. When your hand locks with his and you smile in his direction, he’s damn thankful for that unfortunate opportunity that broke his plans on the plane. And everything else seems to fade away, but you.
