With fur like a dark, blue sky after sunset, Pyxis blends easily into the night with only her flashes of white speckles to give herself away. Unfortunately, this spooks alleyway shops and sellers when Pyxis appears from the shadows with no warning causing her negotiations to fail. Though perhaps her persistent frown doesn't help either. When relaxed one might see her clear, nebulous eyes and feel as though their soul is being perceived.

Although Pyxis comes across as grumpy and stubborn from her near-permanent frown in public, Pyxis is quite patient and attentive to others. Always willing to listen and change her wager in life, Pyxis is both a steadfast friend and a critical thinker. She won't just let her friends flounder into a ridiculous situation. Her brother, on the other hand, she'll let do silly mistakes but never something dangerous, to teach him a lesson.

Travelling far from the Eternal Starfire with her brother, the two twins set out with the goal of charting the stars for themselves and seeing the world of Loria. While her brother, Astrophel, dreams of being a celestial cartographer, Pyxis has a more realistic goal in becoming an Amity Seeker, to travel, trade and exchange the culture of other worlds. On their journey along Icerun, they find themselves sorely under-prepared after Pyxis failed in negotiations for supplies at an Icerun Outpost. Assuming they could find another outpost to try again, they set out. Unfortunately, Astrophel misread his charts and led them far out into the expanse of Icerun's frigid plains. Lost, without supplies, the two Bracchus followed the brightest star they could see through the clouded night sky. Which, through some miracle, led them to a stationed caravan. And the rest they say is history; through Astrophel's bluff, Dina Bardsley hired the two siblings. Now they help lead the caravan place to place, growing closer to the caravan families and now Pyxis is wondering if the home she wants to build is right here.

Devlog #2
Hello again little demons 😈 💕
This week was hectic because we had to get our game to look presentable for the playtesting session.
There was much to do to get the skeletons of our game working, especially for our programmer. He worked on getting inventory system up and running, as well as taking care of interactions between the pets and the player.
I worked a lot on implementing art assets and such in Unity scene, and added some last minute sprites for the Shop and the player room.
We added all four different types of pets in their corresponding rooms, just for demonstration purposes. These pets can be purchased from the Shop AI that looks a little bit like a cat with a black hold as an eye. One of our artists, Val is working on some idle animations for the pets so that they will look alive in-game.
After assembling all the sprites we have at the moment, we decided to expand the size of the rooms. Having bigger rooms will allow us to place more props as well as essential game objects. For example, I am intending to have each habitat be able to contain up to 8 pets, which would most likely be a source of animal cruelty with the current size of our habitats. Once we have bigger rooms for everyone I am certain the pets will fit more snugly in their habitats.

It was fun to watch people play our not yet finished game and find one million bugs including one that made them fly off the gameplay area (collider bug!!!) We are really hoping to deliver a smoother, more pleasurable experience during the next playtesting session. There are some cool features we weren’t able to show off during this week’s playtesting such as in-game time and the shopping sytem.
Having people interact with the work you are a part of is valuable experience, and I’m excited to release a demo sometime soon into the world wide web 🦇 A HELL lot more of polish to do before we do send our Domesticate Hell to the wild tho 😉
p.s) We had Caleb’s music incorporated into our game for the first time just for this playtesting session and it really flowed well together with the rest of the artwork, which was great!
