Gonna try posting this again and hope it works without broken video/gif/etc. But yeah, I've been working on a small backend-free browser pet game for funsies featuring our little goobers. Will probably take me 90 years to finish it, but I have a few workable ideas and here's some placeholder graphics sitting in place.
Also... Small gif how I pipelined those animations.
Using the Save Page WE browser extension that @maxillo recommended in their post about archiving the site, I generated as many HTML files as I could on Goatlings including all of the news and Dev Log posts.
In my heart, this is an accompaniment to @nightmare-eater 's image archives.
There isn't a lot here regarding other user profiles or clubs, I was mainly focusing on how the site actually functioned in case anyone wants to do something with that information. Holes I know about: not every explore area or enemy has an HTML capture. I just didn't really have the time for that. I also downloaded the creative boards for the 2025 Monster Masquerade--you can find earlier years by modifying the URLs, but I haven't archived anything previous.
Hopefully this finds the right people who want it, and if anyone wants to download it for safekeeping, that's what it's here for.
Thank you for your taking the time to answer my survey! I got 655 responses, way more than I imagined I'd get! As always, you learn more about the flaws in your methodology than you do about what you wanted to ask about when you make a survey like this, so I might come back with a new one at some point.
I also really appreciated the comments I got on my posts, it really highlighted some of my blind spots, both in games you play and in gameplay and features!
Below the cut are answer breakdown pie charts for each question. I put some notes after some of them, but it is not super exhaustive.
No surprise Neopets and Flight Rising dominate here since I posted the survey in those tags on here. Some commenters felt that some games were missing here, but post hoc i feel like this question was misstated. I didn't want to make the survey too long or detailed so I opted for twelve options, but I should have narrowed it down more or made more questions with greater granularity.
Shout-out to the principled fella who prefers when you don't have to name your pet!
This one doesn't surprise at all.
Neither does this. There's a small minority who likes pet death in their games, and more people are OK with it if it is due to specific actions the player takes.
No real surprises here, especially considering where I posted the survey.
This is the most highly sought after feature in a pet game in my survey. Much more important than being able to name your pet!
A staple mechanic of the genre.
PVP is more ok when it is not directly related to the pets.
Compare to PvP market sentiment.
Some extrinsic/intrinsic rewards questions.
I would love to hear more about your favorite minigames!
