Rule 4: actually tell them you tagged them
1. On a scale of one to ten how are you feeling today?
Brilliant, actually, because I’m moving. I always feel great on long journeys. I thrive off stinky buses and flight delays and sleeping in airports. It’s when I stand still that the problems start. 10/10 everything is awesome.
2. If you were a sandwich what kind of sandwich would you be?
I would be a mess of a sandwich like my grandfather makes: A stupid combination of whatever nonsense was left in the fridge. Dahl patty, some brinjal pickle, then roasted capsicums, artichokes, tomatoes. Zucchini perhaps. Lots of salt, lots of intense flavours that really shouldn’t all work together. Two different types of bread. No sauce, because the flavours speak for themselves. I would be served on mismatched crockery with a big, proud grin from the ‘chef’ at their cooking skills, and a look of bemusement from the recipient.
I would be delicious.
3. Do you like cookies? If so what kind?
I am Australian, so I like biscuits, thank-you-very-much. Melting moments, but only when they’re very light and powdery, and with thick lemon or passionfruit frosting between the biscuits. ANZAC biscuits, but homemade and so thick with golden syrup you’re not sure if they’re baked all the way through. Cornflake cookies from the local bakery, bigger than your head and blandly delicious.
4. What would your apocalyptic weapon be?
Give me a Swiss Army Knife and I’ll survive nuclear war. It’ll be me and a nest of giant cockroaches. Otherwise a good pair of boots and a set of lockpicks.
5. Do you sleep with the door open or closed?
Closed, always. Locked if I can.
6. Whats your favourite colour?
I look best in a rich true red or royal blue. I like to be surrounded by tones of green, blue and ochre. Sea colours; the colours of the Alhambra and of Australia. And sari colours: rich bright jewel tones that give you a headache.
7. What is your favourite time of day?
Sunrise when I’m at the end of a long journey and I wake up to a pink sky as we pull into a new town.
Early evening on a hot summer’s day when the breeze blows in off the ocean and you can almost believe it will be a human temperature soon. You throw open every door and window to catch it, smell the dust on the streets. Pray for rain.
8. Do you eat breakfast?
Hands down my favourite meal. I’d have breakfast for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but my boyfriend argues that breakfast is either time- or action-delimited and by its nature can only be had once a day.
9. Do you avoid certain parts of town because they are scary?
Depends on the town and the time of day.
10. Do you have a favourite coffee shop?
There was a café in Adelaide that my mother had been coming to since it opened the year my eldest brother was born, whenever she was in town. I grew up there as much as I could have anywhere, conning free gelati out of the waiters and stealing sugar packets.
It closed earlier this year, after a succession of new owners. So no, I don’t.
11. If train one is heading towards Toronto at a speed of 119km/h and train two is heading towards Montreal at a speed of 145km/h what is the likelihood of them crossing paths?
That depends greatly on where each of them came from, and perhaps their drivers’ sense of direction.
I'm not tagging, but feel free to answer these questions kiddies!
