I made these petrography affirmations
I <3 minerals
Limb Cast -Agatized Petrified Wood Log
Native Silver (tarnished yellow) overgrown by Nickeline (pink) and Rammelsbergite (whitish grey rim on Nickeline) and Gersdorffite (light grey, euhedral crystals) and partially replaced by intergrown Acanthite (dull, scratched grey) and Stephanite (slightly lighter, "cleaner" grey)
Locality: Easter-Duffy Deposit, Greater Slave Lake, Northwest Territories, Canada
Plane Polarized Reflected Light, 50X Magnification
Monte Duria Peridotite
One of my favorite thin section samples in our lab. Pyroxene with exsolution lamellae and some stunning berlin blue chloritization.
Petrography is a branch of geology concerned with the analysis and characterization of rocks and minerals. The macroscopic characteristics of rocks and geological materials visible in outcrop, core, or hand sample can be difficult to describe accurately and fully. Macroscopic observations usually suffice for preliminary classification, however much more information is generally available when observed at the microscopic scale. https://www.microanalysis.com.au/services/petrography/
