A fanfic I wrote a while ago and forgot about.
It was for a fanfic thing I was too late to enter. The theme I got was icey
Looking out over a quiet lake sat a lone wolf. With a small yawn it got up and started to walk out onto the frozen lake. The cold icey floor reflected the wolf perfectly, like a mirror. Yet as it moved into the center the surroundings blurred into different scenes. One after the other, outside the owl house, the woods, the frozen lake, inside of hexside, inside her old bedroom. Noticing her old bedroom she paused as a sudden chill ran up her limbs freezing the insides. Shivering as the feeling climbed up her limbs.
The world had changed in the blink of an eye.
On the floor it took Luz took a few seconds before the chill set in. Cuddling deeper into her sleeping bag seemed to do little to help.
"King did you leave the window open?" When no reply came Luz figured King was downstairs.
With a groan she looked up, the window was closed. Quickly curling up again she wondered about the possibility of it snowing. There was only one way to check if it had been snowing, she had to get up for school anyway.
Waiting a few seconds to build up the strength to abandon the warmth of her sleep cocoon. The simple and quick motion from sleeping bag to winter school uniform planned was smooth and sleek.
The reality however quickly backfired when her foot got caught quickly ending up with her facefirst on the ground. However she didn't have time to dwell, the air itself felt sharp against her warm pajamas. Getting up and throwing off her pjs and the school uniform on she noticed there was no sign of snow outside. With how cold she felt Luz was a bit more than a little disappointed.
Deciding not to focus on the negative she made sure she had everything for school. And as she got ready something suddenly felt
..wrong... Immedetly trying to shake it off she looked at the book in her hand... for a split second Luz was sure it had changed colour. It was her abominations book....or was it healing?
A slow fear creeped up as it dawned on her, the feeling something was definitely wrong. As the book seemed to both change colour and stay the same.
Pulling out her notebook she looked at the weird pattern drawn on it. The way it looked was familiar but she didn't know why. As she tapped it she remembered it was the light glyph..... yet it wasn't working. This wasn't the boiling isles.
A sharp headache came over her as she tried to remember what exactly had happened.
As she got up snow started to fall, her headache was gone yet she still had to go to school...
Getting up she opened her bedroom door only to be greeted to the woods outside Hexside.
Without hesitation Luz stepped outside, the snow under her foot making a satisfying crunch. Yet it felt wrong, the coldness was unfamiliar and prickly.
Taking a deep breath she walked around trying to remember what had happened, yet nothing came up....
Looking into the woods a new cold feeling gripped at Luz as she let her feet lead her into the shadows.
After what felt like hours of walking she came across a large reflective wall. Something about the shine was alluring. The way it bent light around it, the way the surface displayed different colours. As she got closer the wall soon towered over the smaller human looking up at it.
A deep feeling emerged as she felt herself reaching out towards the wall. The reflection started shattering into an icey mess, yet as she tried to fight against the allure she found herself almost falling into the wall.
Immediately afterwards realizing she couldn't breath anymore. Each time she blinked, thought, moved, anything the setting changed again and again. Nothing was the same, hot, cold, windy, rain, the flashing sensations were starting to blur together. Confused and panicking, she did the only thing she could think of.
Closing her eyes tightly she focused on herself. The feeling of her heart, the blood flowing through herself. Slowly calming herself down she could start to focus on what she could feel, something in her hand. Without hesitation she activated whatever was in her hand...heat. Opening her eyes she found herself trapped inside some kind of crystal?, ice shard?, whatever it was didnt seem to matter as the small fire in her hand had started to melt her free. Dazed and unsure of what was real she did the only thing she could think of. Tried to free herself.
The moment she was able to she grabbed another fire glyph from her notebook trying to melt it faster. The idea of whatever had trapped her returning lay heavy. As she finally got enough melted to run as she heard it, a nearby roar.
Not wanting to see what made it she immediately started running. In whatever direction was away from the noise.
Following nothing but her guts she could hear whatever was behind her start to give chase. Heavy claws scratching smooth floor created the sound of forks on plates. As she ran the reflective wall came into veiw and as she got close to it she could feel a hot breath against her back. Closing her eyes expecting to feel sharp teeth against her or the feeling of being torn apart. Instead she felt a numbing coldness. As the numbing spread a small thought gripped at her conscious. 'This wasn't what had happened...'
Opening her eyes she couldn't see anything but could feel herself being carried. A blurr of greens and browns slowly passing by, she could only assume they were trees. The same coldness that had been following her was there only worse.
Sharper and harsher yet familiar. It seemed to cling to her wet clothes. There was something else. A comforting warmth from underneath her. Sore, dazed and not about to question what was real and what was fake she cuddled into the warmth, closing her eyes again. Hopefully she'd be home soon.
