he grips your hand to give him strength. a stroll through the bookstore he always goes too shouldn't be this difficult.
but you were there.
seriously, it shouldn't take this much energy to wander through the manga section and look for the latest releases that you both loved to read.
but you were there. and holding his hand.
girls had never taken much interest in him – he was the weird kid with purple eyes and a constant off-putting look on his face. people saw him as creepy, someone to avoid.
you knew it was a cruel thing to say about someone and grew a keen interest in him. not nesessarily romantically, but more like you wanted to inspect him. put him in a terrarium, study him and ocassionally tap on the glass to see how he'd react.
you were certain that he was just an average guy with a couple of quirks, and the second you caught a glimpse of him with his friends in their clubroom, you knew the rumors weren't true.
he was holding a volume of jujutsu kaisen, rambling passionately to his friends about something you couldn't hear properly through the door.
not that what he had to say was important, all you knew is that you had fallen swiftly in love with him.
you spent the next couple weeks trying to get closer to the 'phantom busters'. ocassionally soft-launching that you too enjoyed readed the same manga kanzaki did.
thats what led you to now.
awkwardly glaring at the manga section, your fingers losing circulation from how tight he was squeezing.
you turn towards him, genuinely concered at his anxious mannerisms.
"you good, bro?"
he hurriedly nods at you, a poor attempt to dismiss any concern you had for him.
"do you need a minute? you're totally freaking out, dude..."
he takes a deep breath and turns to face you.
"it's just... i've never had a girl genuinely wanna go out with me before."
he furrowed his eyebrows.
"girls tend to ask me out for dares because they see me as some strange delinquent, but you actually like me. and you like what i like."
his heart is rattling around his chest like a shaken can of soda about to burst. he swallows before continuing.
"it's too... perfect..."
you're stunned by the sudden outburst, his quick-paced rambling that came out of seemingly nowhere. the shift from feeling tense because the two of you were shy, to feeling tense because woah that escalated fast.
"what im trying to say is, thank you"
he seemed somewhat calmed down after getting that off his chest, his face tinted a soft crimson. he turned back to the manga and picked up a volume sheepishly, trying to conceal the vunerability that he felt.
he left you jaw-dropped and utterly astounded. how were you supposed to carry on when a bomb like that had just been dropped on you?
and like nothing happened, he went back to searching.
IM SO OBSESSED WITH HOW U WRITEEE could you please do a mogari x reader where they get together but no one believes mogari when he tells anyone about it? It might be nice if the reader was already in the club or something

Mogari was your best friend. For sure. You went over to his place often, so you didn’t think anything of it when he’d shot you a text to come over and watch a movie with him. Apparently, a childhood series you had both watched had finally been converted into an action comedy movie. Since he had subscriptions to more than enough streaming services, it was only natural to watch in his home. He had even banished Ren to spend time with Noir and not bother you.
It had been fun as always. You had watched, and Mogari, like the person he is, couldn’t keep himself from commenting on the actions while you did your best to keep yourself from bursting out laughing. Even if you did anyway. At one point, you had laughed so hard, you had missed a crucial turning point in the story, and then that had been it. You had no clue anymore what was even happening. You didn’t mind it. You guessed you could just rewatch it again at some point without Mogaris weird humour disturbing.
When the movie came to a calm end and Mogari had nothing to say anymore, and you had nothing to laugh about anymore, you were just sitting with each other, basking in each other’s presence. Your abs hurt from laughing, and you felt his warmth pressed up against your body. The characters on screen were saying something about the moon that neither of you understood the context of but still watched.
His head dipped and fell on your shoulder. You carefully looked over, making sure the movement wouldn’t wake him. His eyes fluttered open anyway before they shut again. His hair tickled your cheek, and you moved to brush it out of your face.
When you combed his soft, black strands backwards, he looked up at you. His eyes were tired, a healthy not-so subtle flush of colour contoured his cheeks and undereyes and accented his red irises. You could feel the heat promptly washing over your own face. He spoke your name in a sleepy voice. You hummed in response.
“Be my girlfriend.”
You sucked in a slow breath of air and felt your eyes grow wide. The casualness of his words somehow contrasted yet fit the situation perfectly. Your own awkwardness was going to ruin the atmosphere, you knew.
“Huh?”
He sat up. “I like you more than a friend. I can’t just be a friend of yours. If you don’t want to be together with me that’s fine, though.” He explained, his face earnest as it always was when he was serious for once. You shook your head- then you nodded then you thought about which of the both would be the appropriate motion for Yes, I want to be your girlfriend and No, I don’t want to not be together with you. You attempted at another motion of the head and then aborted the idea.
“No- yes, I do. I do want to be your girlfriend.” You watched the process of his face quite literally lighting up as a grin spread over his sharp canines. He laid back down against your shoulder, and as you leaned back into the arm of the couch more, he ended up more settled by your chest than your shoulder anymore.
“Do you want to come to the beach with us tomorrow?” He asked as if you wouldn’t have been invited anyways. You had quite literally seenthe message in the club chat earlier that day. “Yeah. That would be cool.” He giggled. “Okay, I’ll tell the other's” He pulled out his phone and wrote a message into the group chat. A few seconds later, you heard notifications come from his phone, as well as your own.
He gasped. “Koreshiki says ‘there is no way you have a girlfriend. Stop living in delusions.’ And oh my god, Zaki said he’s also going to bring his girlfriend?” You perked up. You had thought they were all too much of losers to get girlfriends. Well, Mogari had counted to them until now. “Nevermind, he sent a picture of some anime girl figurine he has on his shelf. What a weirdo.” You laughed. “I mean it is Zaki, so…”
“Oh, Tamon asked if he could bring his new… ghost situationship? I swear, he has to stop bonding with dead people. He also wrote that he thinks my girlfriend is an implication for the box of cup ramen we bought together yesterday.” Mogari looked up from his phone, at you, and you both burst out into laughter simultaneously. “What an Idiot.”

also he's mostly referred to by his first name and it's kind of a past friends to lovers established relationship kinda situation but only implied, have fun reading!!
The other members of the student had already left, you knew because Sunao had texted you to come over. He liked to volunteer to stay late and wrap up the rest of the work by himself to spend more time with you.
You used to spend more time together when he still hadn’t yet cared much about school or his parents’ rules. Back when you had been one of his only friends and when he had still felt alien in school. You had often spent time in parks while either skipping classes or late nights. Thankfully, your parents hadn’t been as strict as his were, so you never got into as much trouble as him. It didn’t mean that your parents let you off the hook entirely unscathed but at the very least better than his.
Seeing him now, how he always acted with Nika and Ichimiya, really sometimes felt surreal, considering the slump he’d been in only months prior to his recruitment into the club.
You opened the door to the club room carefully, somewhat hesitant to make too much noise in the silent hallways. It was already beginning to dawn. It always dawned so early during autumn. You didn’t dislike it, though.
In the middle of the room, hunched over one of the desks, you spotted Sunaos figure. He looked up at you, and a grin immediately spread over his face. “You’re here!” He set the pen down and straightened his back up. You smiled. “Yep. Did you wait long? I still had to tidy up some stuff in the music club room.” You pulled a chair from another desk and pulled it next to his. “Nah, I didn’t mind waiting, I mean, I have stuff to do, right?” He leaned his head on his hand.
You sighed and dropped down on the chair. “Ahh, you don’t know, the music clubs' third years are really making us underclassmen work. Like I just put back five guitars and a keyboard, and then I cleaned all the tables because Yui likes to eat sweets that make a mess easily.” He watched you complain with a glint in his eyes that told you you would hear something from him that he’d told you over and over again. “Is it really the music club that’s making you work, or is it just that you volunteered again because no one else wanted to?” He asked, and you let your eyes drift to the papers in front of him instead.
“Don’t you have something to do yourself?” You pointed out. Sunao laughed. “Are you trying to avoid my question? You’re too much of a people pleaser, you know?” He bumped your arm. You couldn’t help but laugh as well. “Hey, what am I supposed to do if no one else wants to do the cleaning up?” You defended, throwing up your hands. He caught them in his and gave you a cheeky grin. “If they make you work like that.. I could just cut the music clubs expenses. I only need to cross out some stuff right here.” He nodded towards the papers.
You shook your head, trying hard to suppress a giggle. “I can’t believe they trust you to manage the expenses. You’re such a troublemaker, Usami.” You stuck out your tongue at him, intentionally using his last name to tease him. Of course, you were long on a first name basis. After years of friendship, it was only natural. He gasped. “Prez says I’m reliable, smart, and hardworking. Also, why are you calling me Usami?”
“Ichimiya probably just picked you because you passed the entrance exams with the highest marks. Honestly, you had even me shocked that you could actually be smart if you wanted to.” You scoffed playfully. “Hey! Of course I’m smart! I just wasn’t motivated before!” Your own smile softened a little as he brought up the past that hit you both a little bit every time either of you mentioned it. It still felt fresh. His reaction wasn’t much different from yours.
For a while, it was just silent, and your joined hands had dropped down into his lap without either of you really noticing. His blonde hair looked a little like it had orange streaks in the evening sun. It’d be dark once you would go home. Still, this time, neither of you would get in trouble for coming home after dark. Not anymore.
He spoke your name in a soft intonation that you knew. “Yeah?” You asked, just as softly, a little afraid to break the atmosphere. “I know it sounds stupid, but thanks for being there for me. I feel like I don’t tell you enough because you’re just... there.” You nodded as reassuringly as you could. “I know.” You knew he was trying to tell you that this change that he went through after meeting Ichimiya, joining the student council, and actually beginning to like school was something that included you. That you wouldn’t become a fragment of his past, just like the many friends the both of you had left behind since middle school. The perks of having known each other so long was to know what the other meant to say without fully having to say it.
He smiled slowly. “I would kiss you,” he stretched out his tongue playfully. “But it doesn’t feel right right now. So,…” He pulled you in by the hands he was still holding and embraced you. You hugged him back. He was so warm, he smelled of deodorant, the woody cologne he used, and something uniquely him. You loved him. He was perfect. At least for you.
