Once I saw Woody try to hug Herman in Lazer Team, i shipped them. Woody is kinda like a puppy towards Herman and Herman is just kinda like gosh darn it you gay ass puppy boy stop it stop being cute and gay. This ship sucks and I don't think many others would ship it.

Hey I've been feeling really uncomfortable with my masculinity lately. Well, not really my masculinity, but plain being a man. I'm a transguy and i'm firmly confident in my gender, but I've been uncomfortable being in a state of privilege over anyone. I'm afraid that I've absorbed bad and toxic views and as such, will hurt people with them. Do you have any advice with fixing this?

Hey, thanks for the question. Checking privilege is something that everyone should try to do, but especially men because we have a lot of privilege in society and can tend to absorb harmful/toxic viewpoints and ideas without knowing we're doing it. 

When you have privilege over others you can often overlook it. It’s awesome that you’ve realized that you’re in a position of privilege above others, and acknowledging your privilege is the first step. You’re on the right track. We, as transmasculine people, already hold privilege over transfeminine people, and we need to remember that this privilege stems from perceived masculinity. We're seen as upping our status - leaving the feminine and going to the masculine - which grants us more power within society.

Good ways to check privilege can vary, depending on which other kinds of privilege you have/lack, but a big principle behind privilege is the focus on taking up space. How much space do you take up? Are you taking up space that isn't yours to take up? (ex: speaking over transfeminine people in discussions directly relating to transfeminine issues). It's incredibly important to not only stand in solidarity with those who have less privilege than you, but to take a step back and listen to their experiences so that when you are supporting them you have a good understanding of what is actually happening, not just what you perceive is happening.To sum up, take a step back and listen to the experiences of this who have less privilege so that you can learn how to support them best. If you do this right, you're not only on your way to dismantling toxic bullshit you may have internalized, you're also becoming an ally for those in a less privileged position than you.
