So I’m reading Phasma and each time Armitage Hux is mentioned, I get even more disappointed with the way he was handled in TLJ I feel like we’re presented to one character in TFA and another in TLJ. Definitely, the sequels characters are WAY interesting in off media than in the films. And it sucks, because books should be complementary. It happens with Bloodline, by Claudia Gray which is awesome btw. The book tells a story that adds some details to Leia and a few other’s characters but we don’t learn to love/admire Leia after reading the book. Yeah, yeah... I know Leia is one of the main characters while Hux is not. The point is, it doesn’t happen with the sequels, in which we only get vital information by reading complementary works. In my opinion, it weakens the ST when compared to both the OT and PT. And not only Armitage is wasted in the sequels, but Phasma is wasted as well.

Hux things I liked from the Phasma book:

We know what the inside of his quarters look like now - stark, silver edged, brutalist but luxurious. (Plus the now infamous ice blue sofa.)

“In the lines of Armitage’s face, Cardinal sees what Brendol once was, before he grew old and soft. Confidence, vitality, sureness. And yet there’s something cruel and savage in the man, something forged by Brendol himself.”

Everyone seems to use first names - it’s Armitage and Brendol, not Lt. Hux and Gen. Hux. Probably this is for ease of reading. It’s certainly not very military.

Armitage is good with children - he was the one who stepped out of the ‘who’s the biggest badass here’ awkward silence to answer a bereaved child’s question in a way that was age appropriate and reassuring.

Armitage has a protocol droid called KayFour who used to belong to his father.

It is confirmed that Armitage is pretty damn good at reading a situation. He tells Cardinal that he connived with Phasma to kill his own father, perfectly confident that what Cardinal will do with that info is rush off and challenge Phasma - and thus be disposed of with no effort necessary on Hux’s part. And Cardinal rushes off and challenges Phasma and is flattened just as predicted.

That “I hate you, but I want your attention” thing he has with Kylo in the novelization of TFA is v similar to the “I hate you, but I want to impress you,” thing he has with his dad.
