Teensy little drabble
————
“Hey, mom?” Danny called as she left, sitting up in his bed and rubbing at the bags under his eyes.
Maddie paused in the door, turning to give her son a smile. “Yes, sweetie?”
He was so, so tired, he hadn’t gotten a chance to sleep in days, too busy fighting off whichever ghost decided to bother him. He just wanted to rest. He couldn’t rest. “Can you…” He choked down the lump in his throat. “Can you check my room for ghosts? Like you did when I was a kid?”
“Of course, sweetie. Let me go grab the Fenton Ghost Finder!” She was out of the room and back in under a minute, in full Dr Fenton regalia, the blocky device in her hands. She made a show of sweeping it under his bed, in his closet, in the corner by his bookshelf.
The device never said a word, even when she pointed it right at him. (It had long since been programmed to ignore his ectosignature.)
“All clear!” Maddie declared, pulling down the hood of her HAZMAT suit and raising her goggles. She ruffled his hair and kissed his forehead. “You’re safe, Danny.”
He couldn’t look her in the eye. “If… If something happened, if I died… would…?”
“Danny, my sweet baby boy,” She held his face in her hands and her gaze was full of love. “I’m not going to let anything happen to you. I promise. Get some rest.”
He closed his eyes and trembled with held back tears as she left. “You’re too late, mom.” He sobbed quietly to the empty room. “I’m already dead, and no one’s noticed.”
📣 Secret fic update #3!
We have been meaning to post this update, and it's been slipping our minds (oops), so here it finally is! We don't have an excerpt for you this time, but we do have an announcement!
But first, a couple stats! We are presently writing our 16th chapter! The word count is just shy of 74k as I'm typing this. @nerdywriter36 and I are trying not to think about all the editing this is going to require lol.
On to our announcement! We've not said much about this fic as of yet, other than the fact that it is (obviously, given that this is the only fandom we write for) a Phantom fic. Well, the time has come for a couple more pieces of information!
This is going to be a Cherik AU*! After @wheel-of-fish streamed the 1990 miniseries a few months back, Emily and I decided to get working on this concept we'd had for a few years. In addition to it being an AU of the miniseries, we would also like to announce that it is going to be a modern AU! We hope to give an announcement with more specific details soon, so stay tuned!
*If you haven't seen the 1990 version of Phantom of the Opera, here is part one and part two! However, you will not have to have seen this version to understand the AU, should you wish to read it anyway.
Artists support artists! Thank you to @brokeitwiththepowerofmathamatics for entrusting me with this commission, I’m so happy I got to bring your Three Note Chords series to life.
For my Ember phans, show this fic some love! It’s seriously some of the best writing of Ember I’ve seen, and manages to balance humor and angst. If you read it, let me know what you think!!
Raoulstine Week 2022
@raoulstineweek
Okay so I forgot to post things on the right day! OH WELL, that just means I’m gonna cram two stories into today, the last day. Efficient!
First up, for Family:
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Life continues on for Raoul and his wife, but, stalked by a figure from their past, will he ever find peace? Post-ALW, 1,700 words, drama/comedy, rated G, very dumb and it’s maybe my favorite thing I’ve written.
And second, for Celebration:
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Despite Erik’s warnings, Christine celebrates her first Christmas with Raoul and receives a gift that leaves no doubt about which man loves her most. Written for PotO Advent Calendar 2020, 2,500 words, a strong T rating, sort of funny? I think it’s funny. Raoul would not.
Also, I suppose I’d better add in a plug for my ongoing WIP, which features a post-ALW married Raoul and Christine, but like, Erik is there too.
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
111,000 words so far, strong M rating, drama/comedy/angst/sex stuff.
It was in writing this one that I really grew to love Raoul and appreciate the depth and complexity he adds to the story. So, sorry, 13 year old Flora, but he’s actually not the villain of the story. (The villain is that darn lasso, it just has a mind of its own! Erik is, of course, completely blameless and actually a perfect baby angel who just wants to be loved; you did get that right. 🥰🥰 KIDDING ofc)
hey y'all phic writers, if you have an lnd rewrite, reblog bc i wanna read it!
when i first learned about lnd, i was always trying think up ways to rewrite the story to "fix it" so maybe it could have a chance at being half bearable. the other day i came across an lnd rewrite online, and now i'm super curious to see how other people would "fix" the story! i'd be so down to read your ideas!
🎉AN UPDATE!! Yay! I’m sorry it took me this long, but I am so happy to be back to writing it! Hopefully there are still people out there who read this and are happy to see an update too! haha Also on AO3!
I can’t stop thinking about how amazing Danny Phantom S3 would have been if
Steve Marmel retained creative control over the characters and overarching story
We got to see 2 hour-long specials (3? Maybe 3?) each one dedicated to building characters and showing Sam, Danny, and Tucker as they go on their summer road trip together. Could have been used to get some slight ghost-fighting action but also give time for the characters to grow. Danny grappling with his identity. Tucker learning a valuable lesson, maybe about growing up and retaining a sense of identity. Sam trying to explore her feelings for Danny. Maybe after going to her goth festival in the desert she has a conversation about death and it makes her realize her best friend is half-dead and it’s her fault. Danny could think about his future: does he have one? Will he ever get to explore it? What about the IMs he and Val have been sending nonstop? The “I wish you were here”s and the “I miss you”s? There may come a day when Danny doesn’t want to be Phantom anymore. But will the day ever come when the world doesn’t need him to be? We could have gotten that.
Clockwork wasn’t able to contain Dark Phantom. Or maybe he realized he shouldn’t
Pariah Dark returned. Maybe Vlad struck a deal—maybe we could finally see what the deal he struck with Fright Knight was.
Junior prom. We could have gotten junior prom.
Val discovered Danny’s superhero identity and it ruined everything. Hell, I’d need a whole season devoted to her handling this news. He cost her her reputation. Her dad’s job. Her livelihood. Her home. Her security. Her friends. He destroyed everything. He even had the audacity to befriend her, to like her, to share his secrets with her...he’d been manipulating her this whole time, just to save his own ass. Not anymore. His time was up.
We explored Dash’s (closeted?) sexuality
Jazz’s lies grow bigger and more dangerous as she tries to keep her brother’s identity from their parents
The Guys in White were commissioned for some unfinished business.
Dani was actually important
But no. Never happened.
good thing we have fics, eh?
Thanksgiving break is gonna be fun.
