Philip Miller Crane was an American politician. He was a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from 1969 to 2005, representing the 8th District of Illinois in the northwestern suburbs of Chicago. At the time of his defeat in the 2004 election, Crane was the longest-serving Republican member of the House. Crane died of lung cancer five days after his 84th birthday.
In the early years of his decades long congressional career, Philip Crane was a key figure in the fledgling conservative movement that became a standard of American politics. A spiritual man and a passionate speaker, Crane was known for citing history, the Constitution when making a case and constantly quoting phrases from the Bible.
