Mack's death was on D'arcy's mind when his party camped one morning at a soak near Mount Margaret called Wallaby Rocks. Darcy wrote:
We had only turned our horses out for about an hour, when a blackfellow hailed us from the granite. We had taken the precaution to camp on open clear ground. I made signs to the blackfellow to go away. As this was 30 miles from the spot where the young man, P. Mack, was tomahawked on the 7th July, I considered I was dealing with the same tribe. We heard or saw no more until about 3 p.m.
