I brought him to the Alaskan Forest to make him relive his trauma
Philip BANS all troubadours from his holy court
everything i want i have: money notoriety and rivieras
I'm reading "House of Lilies" and. It is entertaining at best and a good summary of the sources I know but some parts are also kind of BAD in a bizarre way. I guess it would be a good intro but little inaccuracies and glossing over stuff bothers me and makes me wary to read about the figures I'm less knowledgeable about.
I am amused at the very subtle and covert RichPhil agenda going on. Lmfao
But what annoys me is while I get there's no need to go over every detail of the siege of Acre and third crusade, it still kind of presents it as "and then the famous kings arrived and did everything" which is very much not true. Also it says Richard "defeated and then befriended Saladin" I'm sorry WHAT???
It's wild bc Philip and Richard had actual real material disagreements at that time that reflected their political interests so I'm confused why none of that was like...mentioned. it's very "vibes based" view of the crusade making some weird statements where some simple sentences indicating that other complicated stuff was going on with other groups would have sufficed. Maybe it's because I read "The Siege of Acre" last year that specifically tries to dismantle the great man Celebrity Kings narrative of acre but like lol.
(also because this is a Capetian centered book, the account of Messina is very simplified too but leaves out Philip's goofy if justified behavior there LOL)
Amused by this line too that seems to make it sound like Richard was being Stockholm syndromed by Emperor Henry. Like what does this even mean. This is like in the devil's crown when they were acting like they were in a homoerotic torture yaoi for a bit
Worst of all though is when the writing tries to be creative and paint a scene which I can appreciate but in doing so does some cringe thoughtless lines, like this:
Not a particularly religious man????? The King of FRANCE??? who brought the Oriflamme to the Battle of Bouvines??? It doesn't even make sense in context because some paragraphs later I talks about Philip praying and various religious practices he was doing so what are we even DOING here
Richard delays his betrothal (again)
writing my two magnus opuses: philippe auguste reborn as lyonel baratheon, and philippe le bel/the iron king reborn as tytos lannister.
very proud of how well they're turning out :3
when he’s a 10 but he likes your brother more than you And you’re betrothed to his sister And said sister is fucking your dad And your mom is his dads ex wife And your the heir to the english crown And he’s the king of france. And everyone knows you’re gay.
