I often tend to feel that whatever TV show I’m currently obsessed with isn’t paying enough attention to whatever character I’m obsessed with on that show—even if that character is ostensibly a member of the main cast—whether by not giving them enough character development, enough plot-important stuff to do, or even enough screen time, and when I have that feeling, I’m sometimes unsure if my Chosen Character actually is being slighted compared to other main characters or if they’re getting plenty of attention and it’s just not enough for me because I love them so much. But in the case of Travelers, I really do feel that Philip is getting significantly less interesting stuff to do compared to the other characters. Definitely compared to Grant and Marcy, arguably also Trevor and Carly. With season 3 episode 3, “Protocol 3,” it really feels like the writers are teasing me personally by having a mission be SPECIFICALLY ASSIGNED TO PHILIP and then having Grant be the one who gets to do it, although I don’t want to erase the fact that Philip/Reilly got to do some compelling stuff in this episode nonetheless. I’m just really hoping for some really good Philip content in the remaining seven episodes, you guys. Of course, all Philip content is good Philip content, but you know what I mean. They really seem to be building up to something with his newest addiction, plus there’s an upcoming episode literally called “Philip,” so my hopes are high. Uh, no pun intended.

But also, watching this episode obviously made me think about 1x03 “Aleksander” and how I didn’t fully appreciate it at the time, partly because I wasn’t really vibing with the show yet, partly because I hadn’t settled on Philip as my Chosen Character. I’m gonna go back and rewatch it as soon as I get the chance. Not right now, because I REALLY need to go to sleep, but soon.
