Okay so with Project Hail Mary (movie)… exchanging pieces of carapace is a sign of intimacy (maybe mate-ness). Therefore. Couldn’t Rocky and Adrien give Grace lil bits that he can wear and, like, they wear lil braids of his hair like Victorian England? (Not nails!)

Okay, time for me to give my PHM head cannons:

1) Eridians reproduce by injecting eggs into their outer layer of protection. It’s not really seen as taboo as our version of sex, and any Eridian can do it to any other Eridian, because of that, the concept of gender is weird to Eridians.

2) because of the first thing listed, Grace sort of just decides if an Eridian is a ‘he’ ‘she’ or ‘they’ through vibes. The older Eridians don’t care, but the younger ones get excited, wondering what they will be labeled as.

3) in turn, Grace realizes how problematic this is, if only because he still has principles, and creates an assignment for his students where they research earth gender theory, and decide for themselves what pronouns they prefer

i can’t stop thinking about how utterly horrific humans must be to eridians.

what do you MEAN you have your protective structure on the INSIDE?? how does that make any sense??

and, like, 50% of your sensitive organs are just… out. just. vulnerable?

on top of that, you LEAK? your body produces so much fluid that you leak for all sorts of reasons, even unnecessary ones.

and your body is capable of reversing your digestive processes to expel MORE FLUIDS.

i can only imagine it’s equivalent to meeting a species that stores all their muscles on the outside of their body and is constantly leaking trace amounts of blood and water everywhere. like an impossibly tall, skinned man. jesus christ.

i wonder how repulsed eridian society was at first.

Small headcannon that the reason so many eridian ocs have food based names is because Grace gave them all names during his Starvation period and could only think about how hungry he was when looking at Loaf. Brisket, Crust, and Gravy.

do yall think it’s hot asf aboard the hail mary because of rocky’s tunnels? grace didn’t seem to feel the heat through the barrier when they first met, but the xenonite seems comparatively thinner on rocky’s tunnels and ball so i imagine some heat radiates through. do you think it’s like having a huge data center inside your bedroom?
