annabeth is better than me because if Percy "do not touch her" Jackson my not boyfriend boyfriend who told me he'd burn down Olympus for me starts befriending a mortal girl who is his break from everything demigod and deadly and clearly likes him, id kill said girl.
but the other devastating thing is the fact that that girl can offer something that I cant, and it was something that I was so afraid would cause a rift between us from the start. and then it turns out to be true and id be so incredibly disappointed and frustrated with myself because I cant change my upbringing and it'll be the reason why I would be loved less.
but the dialogues that center on human choices and Percy's humanity over his demigod-ness are good for setting up the conflict in season 4. percy starts hanging out with Rachel because they can both be normal and it’s human for him to want normal friends so he can be “normal” too. annabeth sees it and it's a callback to one of the first things they argued about, that she doesn't like the moral world and only knows how to be a demigod. but percy still said it won't stop them from being friends. and even if they are still friends of course shes jealous and hurt because Rachel can offer him everything that she cant and it causes that disconnect shes always been afraid of, that her mistakes and her limitations would cause him to leave and hate her. it's human for her to feel that, it's human for her to be limited, but shell be frustrated, because at the end of the day, she just wants to be chosen by someone who will stay.
